Xp Or Vista - Which do you use?

Right long story short. My new PC I got was faulty, sent it back today, hoping to get a refund, then getting a dell (slightly higher spec).

Now then, It comes with Windows Vista Home. I however own 2 versions of XP. I did have Vista when it first came out, and threw it under my bed a few days later

However I'm not one of these guys who is going to live under a rock for the rest of my life so I am willing to give Vista another go.

Just wondering, If service pack 1 has improved things at all?. I remember all the screen fading combined with the loading icon continuously going around and around drove me insane, does that occur less often?

Don't forget to vote in the poll as to which you use! .

Id be very interested to hear from XP die-hards like myself who changed to Vista and didn't return to XP.

Well, for me i had Vista, and wasnt planning to switch back, but vistas updates kept ****ing up my computers drivers whenever it did an update and i would system restore for it to do it again. Plus i get better speeds in pcsx2 with xp.... So i just formatted everything off of my hdd(realising later i had tons of pireated games and hentai to save) no i had a ton of stuff i should have saved like games, and gamesaves, like my oblivion one i had just beaten main story line for the first time...

i had vista x64 for about a month and it hated it so much.
i deleted that partition and went back to using 32bit windows XP.

maybe SP1 w/ Vista 32bit might be Okay, but "if it ain't broke, why fix it"... so get ready to reinstall XP on your new system

I, alas, am forced to use Vista, as it's what came with my laptop. It actually runs pretty well and I haven't had any of the problems that I hear about oh-so-often.

But since my laptop has dual hard drives (not just partitions, but 2 physical hard drives), I might go dig up my XP Pro SP1a CD and give it a go...I just don't want to hunt down all the drivers for XP to make my hardware work.

..Too bad there's not an option for "both"

Vista runs amazingly well here, just as great as XP does. I don't know what performance problems people keep yapping about but I have yet to experience any degradation in performance or issues.

Most if not all games run just as good on Vista as XP, and I don't have a top of the line PC either only an AMD64 X 2 3800+ 1 Gig of ram and a Geforce 6150LE.

Crashes and bugs? Haven't experienced any unless you count a display driver crash as part of Nvidia's sloppy coding about a year ago.

I only dual boot XP x64 to play Dolphin and as soon as I can buy a copy of Vista x64 I'm ditching XP all together.

Everytime the Anti-Vista fud machine starts up it usually winds up not being the fault of Vista and the result of a poorly coded or bugged driver, third party application and/or faulty/severely under-performing hardware that doesn't meet the specifications that are listed for Vista to run decently.

I'm dual booting Windows XP x86 and x86-64. I mostly use 64bit version, but I only use the 32bit when I need it (i.e. surfing, running certain games, Cxbx, etc.)

What games don't work on XP64? Also, why would you switch to XP32 for surfing? XP64 is fine for that.

XP and Vista are probably just as good, now.

As long as your PC is tough enough to run it.

I never used Vista, but I hear (many) mixed reviews.

Im multi-booting with.
XP Pro, XP64 and Vista Ultimate.

I use XP Pro and very rarely use the other two, Vista I find is a utter piece of a crap and runs everything slower then XP, doing comparisons early on proved this to me when i benched the games in XP and in Vista and XP killed it as a gaming platform.

Multiboot with XP 64, Vista 32, and Gentoo 64

Spend 90+% of my time under gentoo (gaming, surfing, coding), with the other 10% under XP 64 (gaming only)... and some trace percentage under vista. Generally, I only use vista when something doesn't work on XP 64 due to the 64-bit incompatibility.

I have a copy of XP64, but stuck with the regular one. Perhaps it's time I should give it a try one day when I reinstall Windows again. And no, I'm not planning to cough up an €45,- for a Vista license, there's no added value, so I'd rather buy a beer.

I went Vista x64 when I got my new rig. No issues whatsoever.
Don't think I'll ever be going back to XP on my home rigs.

Hmmm I'm thinking of getting VISTA some time in the future, it's just that I've heard and read articles about it not being compatible with a lot of games (or at least it has bad issues with them). I mainly use my computer to play games.

By the way, is there an option in VISTA where I could turn off all of their unnecessary graphical gimmicks, like those spinning folders and stuff? I'm not the type of computer user who likes filling up the desktop with useless graphics or folder animation. Even with my current machine, an intel core 2 duo at 3.2Ghz with 2 gigs or ram and an ati radeon 2600 xt, I still use Windows Classic mode and I've disabled the point shadows and other things I don't care about. I'm even using a plain black background for the desktop lol!

I just really don't know when to get VISTA hmm...

Since I recently got another gig of ram on Monday(2GB total), I'm sticking with Vista.
