People downloading SP3 slipstreamed discs hardly could be expected to own licences... (if anything, the downloads themselves could come with a collection of serials).

All in all, the best practice would still be to directly slipstream SP3 yourself. At least you know what goes into the final ISO...

Sorry....but you're wrong. I downloaded an SP3 slipstreamed disc and I own multiple licenses. And, no, there were no serials and it wasn't cracked.

Why should I waste my time slipstreaming a disc when someone already did it and posted it on the net? Downloading slipstreamed discs is very common practice among law-abiding people in the know.
You're not realising that distribution of slipstream windows discs is not only legal, but very common and even encouraged by MS to a certain degree.

I feel jealous. My XP gets corrupted when I perform a windows update.
I cannot run windows update whatsoever.

What he says it's true. You can get the OS from whatever place you want and then call MS and buy a License.
In Mexico there is even a regularization system where you buy an official serial (and nothing more, no files, no nothing) and make your already pirated copy a legal one.
From then on you are told to install it (when you reformat) with the serial you bought.

You can even change manually the key on Vista. In XP too, if you use certain programs.

Been struggling with it. Anyway, I'm back to report this: SP3 gave me nothing on the Eee PC. Maybe... a bit more time on nlite trying to trim it, and that was it. Performance was about as good as SP2 stripped to death. Size was a bit bigger, though. Precisely... 50MB bigger.

Verdict: Indeed... only dual-core setups may see some boost.

So... Is it a waste to update to SP3? Is it important?

it fixes a few bugs, and the appcompat (for incompatible programs) list is only 3 apps so far

i noticed what someone said about a faster bootup.

after i updated to SP3 my first boot-up was really long because it was still installing some files.

but after that i restarted my PC again, and the boot-up was much better than b4 in terms of loading all my start-up apps...

anyways, SolidSnake, the programs that don't work I believe are the Rotation function from one of ATI's old drivers, and 2 AV programs.
