Sadly i don´t agree with that..... in my case Vista is running very stable and great... about crashes... it doesn´t crash for me as is very stable.. in other hands i had alot of problems with XP in the past.. not to mention how many times it crashes for me.

Vista is in fact a great OS even if many people here doesn´t like it... the only down i see at the moment is the need of a fast PC(don´t see the problem with that) and the lack of drivers(i´ve found every x64 driver for my hardware).

other than XP.. Vista even restore itself when a VGA error accur... in XP you´re granted with a big fat blue screen

it´s always the same thematic with new OS´s

am using Vista ultimate x64 with SP1 and so far is the most stable OS i ever had....

i´ve installed Linux in the past and it crash even when i install a GPU Driver LOL... i think it depends your knowledge in the OS and the way you do things.

for me at the moment is Vista x64 ultimate definitelly at the first place in stability followed by the great "Leopard" from apple... and somewhere far, far in the east Linux

yeah...my coworker just did a new build and i was suprised to hear him say that he likes ultimate 64 better then xp!!

i wouldve got vista 64 bit ultimate, but at the end of the day it comes down to money.

only time vista BSOD on me is when i modify desktop vga drivers to run on my gfx card.
other than that its preety solid.

As i sayd is the same discussion each time a new version of Windows comes out... at the end we all end using it

i remember in the past many people sayd... XP?? no way!! win98 is better.... and now???

anyways i´ve tested and also checked many of the new features and api´s vista offers to developers and i think is a great OS... probably the best one Microcrap(ups sorry Micro$oft) has ever created.

Yeah that's what I've been hearing, with the proper drivers Vista x64 with SP1 is indeed much faster and stable than the 32-bit version.

I totally agree with this summary. It would be pretty bad if vista64 was slower than vista32. But ya it comes down to vista 64-bit or winxp 32-bit.

I think I have to stick with 64 bit since I'm planing to get 8gig mem, and I already have a 64bit-only Maya(which is weird since normally a software comes with both 32 and 64 addition)

In terms of operating system stability and performance, despite what many others say, you should go with Vista (of 32 or 64 bit flavour).

However be aware that the Explorer GUI is quite a departure from previous versions of Windows. I've used Windows since 98SE and quite often find myself getting frustrated when trying to find a familiar setting (such as the File Types tab missing from Folder Options) or moving files around (Align to Grid works differently in Vista).

If you don't mind learning a different way of working though, you will not be disappointed in Vista as a choice of OS and you could even dual-boot until you are happy with Vista full time.

Hmm, does Vista have XP mode, like XP with old windows?
As office 2008 is already giving me a pain compare to 2005 ><

You can choose a classic theme but all that does is change the colours back to the 98SE/ME/2000 days, the GUI functionality remains exactly the same just with the older colour scheme.

I gave up with Office 2008 because I couldn't get Word to save the default document settings I use (10pt Verdana and single line spacing), thankfully I got it for nothing from the Union.
