Little review here:
TG Daily - Microsoft releases download of Vista SP1

Not that i care much about Vista, but maybe now M$ will care more about WinXP SP3 release...

Did they happen to make it use 50% less ram ??

Windows Vista may be appealing when it reaches service pack 3 stage but until then........

I'm prepared for my satellite connection to be crippled tonight after it is "Fap'd" for this large download.

I don't cart for Vista much mostly because of a few quirks but it isn't as bad as everyone claims it is.

It is not a memory hog, in fact it manages memory more efficiently than XP. You have to consider it's doing much more than XP under the hood hence the higher requirements.

I run it fine on my AMD64 X 2 3800+ @ 2.0 Ghz PC with a Geforce 6150 and 1 gig of ram and I don't notice any performance decrease or hit when compared to XP. In fact a lot of my games run faster on Vista than XP.

Now that a service pack is out, it should be a lot better in terms of performance and bugs.

All the anti Vista fud everone keeps spouting is the same old same old as before when any new MS operating system came out.

Windows 95 Users:

I'm not upgrading to Windows 98 lol it's too slow and full of bugs, I'll wait for SP1/SP2/SP3/Whatever.

Windows 98/Me/2000 users:

I'm not upgrading to Windows XP lol it's too slow and full of bugs, I'll wait for SP1/SP2/SP3/Whatever.

Now it's the same with Vista, in a few years Vista will be top dog and have great performance and the anti-vista/xp/98 crowd will have a whole new animal to complain about (Windows 7).

98 had more features than 95, plus were more stable.
ME was pure crap so I won't comment.
2000 was aimed for professionals and were amazingly stable compared to 9x.
XP was a fusion of 9x and 2k (with major issues before SP1 that made it crap until then)

Vista however.... it's all about GFX, sound and GUI. Unless you are on a high budget and want to turn your PC into a gaming machine it has nothing new to offer, really...

My install of Windows Vista isn't detecting that SP1 is available for some reason.

It hasn't even appeared as an update yet on my PC.

Maybe it hasn't come out here yet in NY, USA.

have to say i havent noticed major improvements since installing sp1.
granted it feels a bit more responsive than before, file transfer to usb flash drive is faster, I havent noticed anygaming performance improvements.

But i havent done any benchmarks, likt i said it just feels abit more responsive :P

i think i havent noticed any major improvements because i optimised and tweaked vista to remove the bloat before sp1.
