Post Sign of live from PJ64

After roughly a year of silence from the N64 emulator Project64, there has now been a new post over at the official homepage, to announce some changes - take a look at the whole post:

The project has been on hiatus for a little bit, well probably about a year! With the payments, I have found another company to try. I have re-enabled the donation page to see how they work out.
The account creation process is not automatic so I will have to create the accounts by hand.
I still have a busy life, things have not slowed down. My wife is now currently 8 months pregnant. If this payment method works,
then I will over the next few months look at doing some work on improving the site.
Then I will get back to the actual coding of the emu, where I am sure everyone of you would like me to be.

Interrested? Check out the official PJ64 homepage for more details. A big thanks to Luzifer (the user!) for the news.

The sign of life is asking for donations and if they get enough they might start work? That's pretty pathetic. What about all those chumps who donated to projects like Chankast that never saw another release. Write for the love of the system, or for yourself, but never for "donations".

Darkfalz, i agree with you about chankast. Not about "never for donations" because they worked in the case of no$gba (although the author doesnt say how he is, if he went to jail or something like that :P).

Why not just open source it? If you are short on time, there are a ton of people out there willing to pick up the pieces. FOSS works.

You probably don't know how expensive having a baby can be

When I read this message, I did not get a good feeling about it. I have donated before, but allways when I felt like I should. Not because the programmer wanted me to. I will stick by that method.

Because we want the project to continue, open source went nowhere. (Project64 1.4 for instance)

Btw Bobbi, typo in the thread name.

Normal for FOSS to go nowhere, without the Project64 people directing effort (maintaining the main active development trunk closed source doesnt encourage opensource). FOSSing that without assisting with the ffort sounds more like abandoning Project64 on people's doorsteps, not hope it grows.
As an aside, trivial typos are trivial, squall-sensei ;P

Also the fact is nobody knows the plugins or core like Zilmar/Jabo do, Jabo has got effects working under Dx8 that in most cases shouldn't even work.

I am certainly NOT debating Zilmar or Jabo's skills! But it seems like they are busy, and more work would get done if it was FOSS. Look at how far Mupen64plus has gotten recently, or better yet, Dolphin! I don't know why I have to keep explaining the FOSS advantages. Firefox, Apache, MySQL, ioquake3, Linux, Pidgin, and The GIMP can all speak for themselves at this point, I would think.

Mupen64 can be considered the opensource version of PJ64

Seem would be the word, there are already enough opensource emulation projects as it is, so anyone wanting to contribute there are things being done. Mupen64 for example.
