No$Gba great improvement with overclock

Hi. I have overclocked all my stuff here and No$Gba is running 100% full speed now with NDS2xGL2, MSN and Internet Explorer opened and Anti Virus on. It's amazing ! So far I have tested FF3 and FF12.
Now I'm seeing from what No$Gba is made of. Great emulator!!

See the Signature for overclock details

You should be able to clock even higher

I have similar cpy p4 630 stock 3gz running @ 3.6ghz , but people have had it over 4ghz! my ram doesnt like it any higher

try these ram loose ram timings 3-4-4-8 and you should be able to get higher then 3.41

And keep in mind p4 throttle when they go over 70*c

You dont wanna go higher then 65*c max at load

Get everest ultimate edition to check your temps ,usefull program for other stuff to

I have a 2.4ghz core 2 quad core a 8800 gt and 4 gigs of ram. It still lags a tiny bit if i use the opengl but it still runs quit well. I think it shouldent lag, maybe its the emulator not using all 4 of my cores. He should put that in the next update. But the other renderer works very nicely on zelda, it just laggs when there are 6+ enemies and lots of fire animation going at once. If someone thinks it shouldent then reply and tell me what im doing wrong. thanks

Unless you have more than adequate cooling an overclock should never be attempted.

Great for you that it's helped, but it should never be given as advice as most people will not have adequate cooling in their PC's and if you don't know what you are doing and don't have adequate cooling then you can destory your entire system by attempting to overclock.

I am not reprimanding you, I am just informing the general public that this should not be seen as a solution to get the emu to run at better speeds.

As for the C2Q, no$gba does not have multi-core support so only one core is being used to run no$gba. This also can't simply be added as Martin (no$gba's author) does not have a multi-core system and is in fact using a fairly old single core. So this sitaution is unlikely to change in the future.

You're right Schumi, I forgot to tell that I'm doing overclocks by monitoring the System temperature all the time. And I did many tests, with/without overclock, and believe me, the system temperature is almost the same Just a slight raise, but most insignicant with the overs.
But anyway keep in mind monitoring your system when doing overclocks.

Did you read nothing of what I said? The mere fact that you are asking about overclocking means you should never even think of it EVER!

AN OVERCLOCK IS !!!NOT!!! RECOMMENDED FOR THE AVERAGE PC USER AS SERIOUS DAMAGE TO SOME OR ALL PC COMPONENTS COULD OCCUR !!!

In other words unless you have a fair deal of experience about the internal workings of a PC don't even think about overclocking EVER !!! (especially not for something as trivial as a handheld emulator)

I seriously can't stress this enough...

Ok.

I am emphasising it this much not only for your sake but for anyone else that thinks this is a quick-fix deal to perfect speed.

just get a new computer with better specs if your concerned about your emulation speed. like schumi said, over clocking is not a idea for average pc users

Even an upgrade just for an emu is a stupid idea and a waste of money. Rather invest in more DS games.

If however you need to make an upgrade anyways for your PC gaming or work needs then go right ahead.

OK, we have to start donating more so Martin can get a multicore and start putting support for it. If it will make it run faster it will make our lives so much better.

And does the no$gba use the graphics cards to render the 3d? If it doesn't even use our on board graphics then he should change it so it can. It would make every computer run the system a little faster.

I'm pretty sure using multicore tech will go against Martin's philosophy's with the whole Nocash project. Sure, multithreading in ASM can happen, but I doubt Martin doing so, since he is more than happy with the technology he has, so why pressure people into doing things they don't want to do, or need to do? Plus, I'm amazed how optimized the emulator already is, so I don't mind if multithreading of the various different emulator components isnt added.
