On mine, at least in Shenmue I, can't remember about II, Ryo is always transparent (its fine in cutscenes though). It's not just close-up. I've played through all of Shenmue I and II on Dreamcast and Xbox respectively and I don't remember that being an issue.

And what video plugin are you using?

nullPVR, the Jan 10 2008 version I was discussing earlier in the thread. Though it did it with pretty much all of the older versions and the Chankast plugin as well.

Actually, I should say that indoors the transparency seems to work right. But running around Dobuita or just about any town/outdoor area makes him transparent 100% of the time.

Observe:

Simply standing there, I don't think he is supposed to be transparent. Though again, indoors and in cutscenes seem to be fine.

Note:
I'm not complaining by any means, the game is more than playable and I greatly appreciate the work put into the emulator.

Something I figured out about the transparency issue is that it only happens where there is sunlight, because everything's fine when it is at night or when in a home or store.

Aha! Must be the sun that Nulldc hates!

If this gets fixed I'd be SOOOO happy. Still, it's great.

BTW, extra geometry mode works for widescreen resolutions. Better than stretching!

Ryo's ghost =P

AFAIK on the real consoles he only goes transparent when he blocks the vision in small rooms/areas/corners.

I noticed that too. More precisely, the darker a part of Ryo's body is supposed to be, the more transparent it is. If Ryo's back (which is what the camera shows) faces the sun, the model is completely opaque.
In the opposite case, the model is transparent.

yeah that's really the only major glitch in Shenmue I, ryo is see-thru but only during the day. Tried messing up with the configs in many ways but that really wont go away. Another very annoying bug is at the harbour in Disc 3, the ground would disappear showing Ryo and people walking on the sea....very annoying... but hopefully this will be sorted in the next version!!

Shenmue 2 on the other hand works as a charm, none of these bugs affect it...

Yeah for the first time I have complete Shenmue I on a Emulator,
thats great and thank you for the settings,
but yes many graphic bugs anymore when I am play but looks more nicer and playable as before..
In the Cutscenes the game is perfect with a little bug in Ryo's hair... -.-
And no good graphic Filter, most of the objects are to low in the game,
yes it comes from the programmers but with a good graphic filter looks better, I think...
The sky is very very pixelated too....
And in the motorbike scene with Ryo and Nozomi give absolut no sound...
Hope in the next version from nullDC gives a better graphic and sound Support..
Was good to play that game again after many years and that without original Hardware...

Here Pics... (klick on the pic when the site is finished load to see the full resolution)

Thanks a lot for this Emulator. Unfortunately I never owned a DC, but I love this Game. For me its not that bad, that the character is transparent. What really sucks are sometimes the transparent walls. Is there anything one could do about this issue?

edit
Thx Snake.

Mathos2, READ THE RULES, don't ask for roms, isos, chds or bios. You need to dump 'em yourself.

Luzifer, thanks for your images!

The reason why it looks a bit dated perhaps is because back then we didn't have any bloom effects, and I wonder if the DC could do such effects. Shenmue 2 already has a lot better lighting as well. The reason why the sky is very pixellated in Shenmue 1 is because it's a 2d image, so no filtering or processing done on it, so it looks kinda terrible when stretched. In Shenmue 2 the sky is done in 3d, well, it's rendered as a texture, meaning that when stretched it will only become blurry.

For Shenmue 1, I ALWAYS use ChankaPVR.

Try it, it works best in Shenmue!

And Mathos, I know where to get the images, don't worry.

Can you post your system specs?

Also, please close ALL other windows in the backround (except for the DOS screen, you need that) and close any Antiviruses while playing the game.

My sistem specs are not good as yours, sure thing. You people have great PC's!! (as i can see on your signatures...).

Ok:

AMD Athlon 64
Sempron 2800
1.6 ghz
512 MB Ram
GeForce 6200 256 mb
Windows XP Pro SP2

But the fact is I can solve this problem changing the audio plugin to ELSEMIS. But the sound is very poor...
Actually i can play Shenmue (I), Soul Calibur and Ikaruga, at normal speed.

I just wanted to know what's this problem about...

You can play shenmue 1 at normal speed?

Well, that's odd... Did you try other options in the settings?

Maybe you need to try enabling or disabling options for the nullAICA plugin.

Well...is not like PERFECT SPEED, but i can play Shenmue 1 almost like the one i played on dreamcast a few years ago (with some graphics issues of course...). It plays very good. Thanks to the creators of this emulator, i dont know how you did it, but its great.

As I said if I change the sound plugin there is no error, but the NullDC plugin sound is the best, i want to play the game whit this plugin. What's the "cpliped mxl.-" thing means?

Try changing the nullAICA options (not the ACTUAL sound plugin)

And I don't know what that message means :/

Rebrov I get the exact same thing but that happens ONLY during that very first cut scene and another similiar one at the 3rd cd when a new location is introduced, apart from that the game runs very well with NullAICA, with only little crackling of the sound in a few big spaces... i've tried them all and NullAICA is really the best, it's the only one that reproduces everything... Elsemi only reproduces dialogue and some backgorund effects but not background music (which is too beautiful to be missed)....
