Well Gamespot continues to tarnish itself nominating KANE& LYNCH for Game OF the YEAR
If you use Digg / All News, Videos, & Images at all you'll know about all of the hulla-balloo Gamespot create when they fired their most senior editor soon after he gave Kane & Lynch a 6/10 (which is on par with what almost every other reviewer gave it). Whats fishy about it is they are recieving MASSIVE ~$100,000/month ad revinue from Eidos makers of that game. Now Kane & Lynch is up for nomination for Game of the Year. Gotta love those CNet corperate Executives (CNet owns gamespot).... Lets make it happen! Vote for the diarrhea that is Kane & Lynch to be Gamespot's GOTY. GameSpot's Best Games of 2007

I don't think they put K&L because they tought it was good. I think they put it in there because it was one "higly anticipated game" only. They arent saying "omg those games are awesome" or "should be game of the year!". They are only nominating games of every genre that were anticipated. That's why they have sport games, that we know don't deserve a game of the year awards, but they can't just keep those games out because of what they think, they have to let us decides. As such, they nominated every games that were anticipated and leave us to choose which one will win. PS : The results are really stupid... Halo 3 wasnt "BAD" but it didnt deserve 9% of the votes, it was only a average fps with a good multi. CoD4 DEFINITLY doesnt deserve 12% either, it can be described in the same way as H3... "Average fps with good multi. Crysis with 14%... Well, Crysis looks very good, has a really nice SP, but doesnt last long enough or has a good enough multi to be "game of the year" either. Assassin's Creed is cool (8%) but repetitive, too repetitive. Mass Effect only has 7%? It's one of the only game who offers contents + try something that we don't see all the time. AND it lasts quite a bit of time + offer more than one play-through + offer nice gfx (which is something that everybody likes). And yet it's rated under Halo 3, CoD4 or AC? Come on! Metroid Prime 3 has 1%? Sure the game wasnt ground-breaking, but it sure was more enjoyable than a lot of other games... Ratchet and Clank deserves a little more than 1% too. Super Mario Galaxy and 10%... Well, I think it deserves more than that, honestly. It's a really really really awesome game, one of the few who should be GOTY. Phantom Hourglass was really nice, but no the best zelda, still, 1%... Orange Box deserves more than 4%, if only because it kick H3 and CoD4 asses when it comes both to a SP FPS game and multi FPS game. And UT3 is currently leading with 15%, which is quite hard to say... UT3 is definitly great, but Game of The Year? I'm not sure if a game who focus SOLELY on Multi FPS can be really seen as GotY... A game of the year should offer a GREAT single-player at the very least, since we should be able to enjoy a game alone. And UT3 can be enjoyed alone, but not for very long... Especially because of stupidly dumb AIs (I know, I've tried a lot of maps with bots at various difficulty, and they always stay dumb, they simply shoot faster and give more headshots). Because of this, I don't think UT3 should be GotY. A game is something that should be enjoyed alone at first, and multi as second. Sure there are some exceptions, but most of them can't be seen as GotY either, like MMOs since they constantly changes, and can become very very bad (think SWG...) all of a sudden. The only real nominations I'd see for this title : Bioshock (so-so) Crysis (so-so) Mass Effect (sure as hell) MP3 (possibly) Ratchet and Clank (so-so) Super Mario Galaxy (definitly a strong competitor) Orange Box (Great SP, Great MP) Unreal Tournament 3 (so-so)

That's what I said, only games that were released in the latest months are nominated (08 to 12). Obviously if K&L was nominated and those two games arent it was released after them. Looking at that page, they say that it's only a contest to see which games, between the 30 games of "Game Watch 2007" was the best. It is NOT a "Game of the Year 2007" contest. "(Please note that this voting process is not GameSpot's full Readers' Choice voting, which will be made available with the full awards in the coming weeks.)" Shadowrun and LAIR were released too soon to be part of Game Watch 2007, GW was made to keep track of the games who would be released in what some gamers named "the avalanche of 2007". 30 games were picked as the most anticipated and were made part of GW2007. Since K&L was part of them (LAIR and Shadowrun were not since, as said before, released too soon) it is now part of the nomination. We can't blame Gamespot for putting K&L in there, we could only blame them if they DIDNT put it in there. They are forced to put the game in the nominations since the game WAS anticipated and, as such, became part of GW2007. If LAIR and Shadowrun had been released later they would have made the list of GW2007 and made the nomiations of "best game" of this contest, right beside any other games in there. But to make it short : This is not a "GAME OF THE YEAR" nomination, only "which games was the best in the Game Watch 2007 List". Game of the year will be in a few weeks.

But Kane & Lynch? GotY? I guess there are 100,000 reasons they're listing it. Gee and people wonder why I prefer *honest* game reviews. Disagreements over Super Mario Galaxy aside, I tend to ask opinions of members of sites like here about games, not places where they've sold their souls to corporations... i.e., I may disagree with members here on games but I tend to respect their difference of opinion.

I really really REALLY doubt K&L will be part of the real GotY nominations. They know it will totally make them look like ass, they only put it in the GW2007 nominations because they were forced, as it was part of the list that was made months ago.

.The thread says "K&L nomatined for GotY" and while Gspot did a stupid job of firing the guy (not confirmed to be because of his review, but still possible) I don't hold back this page against them.

If they cared about public opinion, they'd not have fired the reviewer for doing his job.I couldn't even log in to the site to post my opinion tonight! Fair and balanced my ass!

Honestly, I'm not entirely convinced, would they really fire a guy for pissing of a companies for the xxxx time? It's not the first time a game received a bad review while the company bought ads, and the ads only lasted a few days (since its how it works). Would they really fire permanently one of their biggest review for this only? Companies are pissed of about bad reviews every weeks. They STILL buy ads spot because they know it will get them more customers anyway. As long as we have no proof, I'll give them the benefice of the doubt. Yes, he was fired after giving a bad review about a game that was being advertised on Gspot (which happened before many many times) Yes, Eidos complained (as did just about every company in the world before). Yes, his review was slightly edited, but they didnt change the review to make it look better, the flaws of the game are still shown in the edited review, they didnt remove anything that will make the review nicer to the game. Yes, his video review has been pulled out after a few days, but it was reported as being of bad audio quality making it harder to understand what he was saying. If they are to released a video review they want it to be understandable, they hosted back the video later for anybody who'd want to see it, even if nobody really wants. In the end, there's many many many many reason the guy could have been fired. And while those things look "coincidental" there isnt any big proof that "ZOMG Eidos was pissed and now they fired him!". Eidos paid in advance the money for a few days, his review didnt make CNET lose any money, and CNET is well aware that even if the game got a bad review, Eidos will keep on buying publicity because that's just how it works. So germmnast (whatever is name is) being fired about the bad review? Possible, but doubtful. Until we get a definitive proof I'll keep myself from judging them too harsly. For all we know the guy could have had a very bad temper and constantly harassed everybody over there which could be why he was fired. Or maybe he kept on overstepping the bounds of what he can and cannont do. Maybe he thought he had big authority because of his senior status and constantly tried to boss people around.

Thanakil, you obviously don't know what happened to PCXL (PC Accelerator 1998-2002). They were the 2nd most popular computer magazine at the time of their demise and they had the fastest growing subscriber base. But they began losing Ad revinue left and right from publishers because they had the balls to ripped into games waaaay worse than Gerschmann(whachma-callit). (they only did it to games that deserved it) See most of the magazines financial lifeline comes from ad revinue not subscription base. The magazine thought it was invincible and could say whatever they wanted but learnt a harsh lesson that its a relationship between the publishers and reviewers and you have to keep that on good term unless you want to get bitten in the butt. Gamespot is the same much of its revinue comes from ads. PC Accelerator(abbr. PCXL) was popular enough that PCGamer recently tried to revive the brand magazine with a cheaply emasculated version in 3rd qtr 2007. It was only the same in name....
