Mario Galaxy impressions (85 stars and rolling).

I recently have purchased Super Mario Galaxy for Wii. After the acquisition of 85 stars i thought of dropping some impressions into this forum. And yes, i am pretty lazy right now to write a review, as i prefer to play the game instead .
To make things short, everyone interested should know that it is the best reviewed game out there, best game of all time in sites like gamerankings, etc.
Is it overhyped? Is it the best game out there, ever?
Well, since i think there are many categories of games out there that serve different needs, it is not right to make Mario Galaxy or any other game whatsoever the best game of all time. BUT, well, it definitely deserves the best platform game of all time, yes it is that good and it worths it. For anyone that has a wii, and likes even a little platform games, it is a must buy as it is the best of its kind.Graphics? Amazing for the wii, for the art style and the roundness feeling that they have (every object in this game is so damn round), i would ditch Crysis demo anytime, and i am not kidding. Sound? Very, very good orchestrated sound that you will definitely like. And last but not least the gameplay. In a sentence "best 3d Mario experience ever", you heard me. It has fresh gameplay elements and yet it feels so familiar with old 2d mario bros adventures at the same time. It is addictive and fun at the same time. I played it with a cousin of mine in coop mode and we had much fun, afterwards he was rather impressed and asked me about it's price. Wii owners, don't miss this one or you will regret it, believe me.

The game went to the first place on GameRankings, with a combined score of 98%, but now dropped to 97.4, making it only to second best game with the best score (under zelda OOT with 97.6). As a way to compare, Mario 64 had 95.7%.

As for Metacritic, 97% too, but for USERS rating (so players instead of official reviews) the game got a 94%, with over 400 votes.

Seems like the game is appreciated by both the critics and the players.

They kept the classic tradition of the game, but innovated it with new ideas and styles. Played the game at a friends today and I must say, it makes up for some of their horrid Mario adventures../shudder Paper Mario...

I don't know about Metacritics, but i definitely don't trust IGN readers rating, since people vote for a game BEFORE it is even released. In mario galaxy for example the game was rated 9,2 if i remember correctly by readers weeks before it's release even in japan, and this applies to all games (now how lame is that?). Since i figured that out i only read readers reviews in the site and not pay attention to the ratings.
BTW, after its release mario galaxy ign readers score went to 9.3.

But i had some good laughs seeing people rating a game by it's preview pictures and hype. DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 has a nice 9,3 - 72 readers rating before it's release. And so many others, heck i would rate smash bros brawl a 10 by it's pictures anytime.

MG is by far the best Mario game I've played since SMB3 and SMW or Yoshi's island. This game is a lot better in my opinion than Mario 64 and Sunshine. MG combines classic elements with a new way of playing in 3d just as the two previous 3d titles except with a twist.

My family has had many fun hours so far and more to come. Even non Mario fans could appreciate this game. The gravity makes everything a bit more challenging, bound to get you frustrated for the first few or quite a few attempts on a level.

Make sure you visit every galaxy/level there are quite a few challenging one bound to leave you ripping your hair out.

Only cons I found is in some instances the camera angle can be annoying, leading to many deaths. The other part is you can not always change the camera angle even if severely needed and are stuck with a restricted camera angle.

saving this one for christmas, seems like it surely will be worht it

to add something of value to the topic.
when i look at mario galaxy i am really concerned with the future of games. apparantly the game is a masterpiece, filled with gameplay and fun. it seems to get a really big media exposure too, commercials everywhere. and still...
the game has sold incredibly bad in japan. i think 300.000 in its first week, dropping down to 75.000 in its second. now i know that its selling incredibly well everywhere else in the world, but i still find that very troubling, as it sends out a certain signal to all japanese studios.
the decission to bring out the next dragon quest game for a handheld platform instead for a console is starting to get understandable.
back when nintendo released zelda for the wii i read in many interviews how it would be the last game of its kind, as pressure from within nintendo dictates that it was too wastefull to put so much effort into making a single title when you could release a dozen braingame like games and earn a tenfold. now that this mario game is doing liek this in japan im really worried.

am a Wii lover and i think everybody here noticed that but........... i wasn´t impressed with mario galaxy.... the graphics are excelent no doubt about it.. but the game itself is not the WOW that i spected.

not to mention the bad/crappy intro when bowser appears and take the entire castle with it.

but the game is OK

so i think MP3 is still the best Wii game i´ve played so far!!! damn how i love me Wii

Uhhhh... $35? Is that a typo? Will they have more than one per store? Oh I see. You are refering to the game, not the console.
