Cube Media Player doesnt work. THere is a guide which will only take about 1 minute to read and 10 minutes to do.

I cant provide a link for obvious reasons.

But there is away.

although i can provide a codec for playing the files:

psf2mini codec.

Thats a PS2 Sound codec

psf2 is not a codec, thats an zlib compressed container for musicfiles and their drivers.
the high experimental psf2 plugin is just a small PS2 emulator wich emulates the soundsystem of the ps2.

In Start menu go on Tools and then click ADX-WAV Conversor. Select the input directory (where you put the ADX files already extracted), then select output directory and Start, that's all.

hey I'm having a problem with a certain game "tekken 5" both cube media player and PSound are not working so much. with CMP, all im getting is the tekken 1 and 3 intro videos. and with PSound, i get a bunch of repeats of the devil within sounds & arcade tekken sounds no tekken 5 sounds at all.

so whats up is tekken 5 protected? is this some kind of fail safe so that way no one can extract sounds from the disk?

It's hard to extract anything from tekken 5. Movies, music, sfx...anything.

what im asking is why? is it because the disk is heavly protected or is it because CMP and PSound are just incomplete extractors?

do other games do this?

yeah, pretty much. All the content such as music and fmv's are either encrypted or encoded with some kind of uncommon codec.

The extractors aren't really at fault. Tekken 5 is just a hard game to decrypt. And unfortunately, the few people around here who might have the skills necessary to help you out, either don't want to be bothered or don't have the game themselves to experiment with.

yeah. They're out there. Tekken 4, Star Ocean 3, come to mind. I'm sure there are dozens upon dozens of other titles like this.

crap.......and i was going to try tekken 4 tommorow too!
in a way, these extractors are incomplete if they cant extract games like tekken 5. guess i just got lucky with the DBZ budokai games. damn what now?......

Yeah. I suppose they're incomplete in the sense that they don't extract the content from every ps2 game. But the extractors do what they're programed to do. They search files for commonly known hex header and footer values to commonly known file types found on ps2 games (such as .wav or .mpg/m2v) and they extract them.

With that said, it'd be pretty hard to make an extractor which can extract music and fmv's from every single ps2 game since there are so many unique ways developers can utilize to compress and encode their content (if they choose to).

You can try capturing the music yourself by hooking up either your ps2 or your tv to your pc's line-in or microphone port and using a program to record the audio directly. But other than that, I don't have a clue.

Anyone tried Red Dead Revolver with the cube media player yet?
I'm looking for ages now to get to the music in this one.

On a side note, I guess the PS2 is often using a sound processing unit for
some tunes. I once looked for the loops used in Def Jam fight for New York 2 and only found very small files that only gave my static with MF Audio.

True.

Background Music is in the Psf2 or miniPsf2 format.

and the FMV's are placed in a PSS container and compressesed using the standard MPEG-2 (example drakengard, ffx-2) or Huffman compressor (example Kingdom Hearts, FFX). Some PSS files sometimes doesnt even have PSS headers and therefore extractors like cubemedia, gigaherz tool etc cant even detect them due to them containing no headers at all (example Final Fantasy XII, FFVII Dirge of Cerberus) but its very rare.

.
Its mainly due to us not having the game instead of not wanting to help you out and even if we have the game, sometimes we cant even find the time we need to make/finish it (we......... i mean i for one dont stay on the computer 24hrs a day you know .

lol. I hope you didn't think that my previous comments were directed towards you in particular ffxdean.

Anyways, if you're willing and you have the time, it'd be great if you could help me rip the fmv's to this game. I've got the game so I can provide you with anything you need to get started. I've wanted direct rips of the fmv's to this game for quite some time now. (Almost 2 years to be exact.) So it'd be great if you could help me out. Of course, should you decide to help me, you can do this at your own leisure. I won't pressure you to make any progress or anything. Feel free to post your decision here or pm it to me.

*edit*
I thought I'd post this info while I'm at it.

I found a thread in another forum where someone else tried to rip Tekken 5's fmv's. He posted some info that looks to be extremely useful. Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge and the tools necessary to follow up his work. The following info was posted by psychospacefish from PS2Modz Paradise.

I'd link to the topic directly, but apparently you need to register before you can read through the message boards.

EDIT2: Found them on the DVD!!!! The table is in the first file of TK5DATA3.BIN, unfortunately, it's an LZS compressed ELF. Why did they need to compress an ELF file on a DVD with heaps of space only for the files that were actually important to those tables? To piss us off, naturally. I've got a table for both these files which is Kit Magician ready. Basically TK5DATA0.BIN has about 30 files, which are movie files in their own format. TK5DATA1.BIN has 3100+ files, of varying formats, the majority of this is taken up by a few movies and some audio. All that's needed to rip the game is an LZS decompresser/recompresser. (I'm not entirely sure but tekken 5 could have a unique LZS compression routine like the FF games do.) Anyone who wants to help... look at the first file of TK5DATA3.BIN and tell me if you can work some of it out. I know this much so far.

TEKKEN 5 LZS ROUTINE

Starting byte is the control block. It's read right to left in binary, a 1 bit means uncompressed, a 0 means compressed, the last one is always a 1 (mask bit?). 7 blocks of data (uncompressed is one byte, compressed is two bytes). Next control block. Repeat.

HELP ME WITH THE COMPRESSED DATA. I know it's a pointer but I have no idea how the 16 bits points to the data and how it deducts the length. Any help appreciated!
In his 2nd post, he said the following after being asked how to extract the 30+ files within the TK5DATA0.BIN file:
