Vista 64 question

Im debating on wheter or not to buy the vista 64bit or 32 bit right now. its gonna be an OEM version. I remember back when vista came out, 64 didnt work that well with anything. How have things progressed? i know my vid card and sound card now work. Also, if i get OEM, can i still reformat and use the same key? im pretty sure i can but just making sure. thanks.

Can you be more specific? I have had Vista x64 since soon after Vista released and it's been running fine, on a laptop of all places.

Drivers are more a general Vista thing than x64 specifically. For many things, if there's no x64 driver there's likely no Vista x32 driver either. Vista x64 does require drivers to be digitally signed, which means no more "driver of the week" without bypassing this which really isn't a good idea anyway.

The only major hiccup in x64 (XP64 and Vista 64) is the inability to run 16-bit apps. There's no DOS compatibility and 16-bit Win apps don't run either. I have had a couple of instances where I wished I could run a particular 16-bit app.

I'm happy with Vista x64 on my laptop and XP64 on my desktop.

Creative cards don't like Vista in general, since Vista is designed completely opposite of what Creative cards do. It's not fair to pick on them specifically.

It's the same with Vista 32bit. Vista pretty much alleviated support for all legacy software and hardware(all 16bit software and hardware which used 16bit code).

Luckily, there's always emulation.

OEM installs tend to only work on one PC. However, these "not for resale" DVDs may have different rules.
