Problem installing new HD

Hey guys.

Well first of all I havent been updating myself about hardware for a while now, so Im kind of old school. Normally when you plug in a new hard disk, the drive appears under My Computer and you'll be able to format it right?

This new one Ive got (ATA) is detected by the BIOS and device manager, but fails to register as a drive under My Computer. Ive only got my C drive appearing. Ive tried all kinds of jumper settings, and the HD does vibrate so its appears to be working. What could be the issue?

Thanks in advance.

The thing is that your drive is not formatted.

You have to format it with a windows xp or any other os setup disk, like you are going to install windows xp, but quit after you format.

Chose NTFS to format it.

Be carefull and unplug your old drive first, 'cause you might format the wrong drive instead.

Gah. I cant believe it was that simple. Ive never had to do this before though... maybe because I was constantly installing Windows into my new HD all this while.

Thanks, to all of you.

Nucking Futs, you will have to remind me of your previous nick. And I noticed you stole the concept from my title message.
