Windows Data Execution Prevention Problems

I decided to post this here since it has to do with Windows XP, and not hardware.

The problem I'm having is every time or almost every time I open the Control panel or something else in Windows XP, I get an error or message Saying that Data Execution Prevention prevented it from opening because of a suspected malicious attempt.

After I get that message explorer.exe crashes and restarts.

This is really annoying since I can't get into the Control Panel to modify my settings or have a very difficult time doing so.

I have googled and found nothing for my particular problem, so I decided to post here in hopes of a solution without having to reformat my PC.

Thank You very much if anyone can help me and provide a solution

Btw, My new PC which has a Dual-Core AMD64 X 2 3800+, has abnormally higher CPU usage than normal for a Dual-Core Processor. CPU usage sometimes jumps up to 50 to 60 percent for both cores from just doing normal, non gaming stuff like opening up explorer to browse files or browsing the web or using an application.

Is this normal for a Dual-Core Processor or does it sound fishy. I've already scanned for Viruses, Spyware and Adware using Avast! Home Edition, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Adaware 1.6, which came up clean.

So I don't think Malware, Spyware, Viruses or Adware is the culprit in this case

Thanks again if anyone can help.

check which program is using the 50-60 cpu. I'm guessing it's a program called SVCHOST.exe, which basically is the program that starts services in win xp (everything from windows audio to DHCP). to check this, organize (in your task manager window) your tasks by cpu usage. If all is well, you should see that System Idle process is very high (obviously, system idle process is your computer idling meaning nothing's happening. But try to notice when it happens. It's tricky because a single SVCHOST.EXE can start up a bunch of processes. You basically have to narrow it down to which service, which is a rather difficult challenge. The reason I think this is because if you google "SVCHOST.exe 100 cpu usage", you'll see a ton of hits. Since SVCHOST.exe is only a single core process, this means on a dual core about 50-52 CPU will be used. If the program is not SVCHOST.exe, then either list it here, or google it.

EDIT: You'll find that if you "end process" of SVCHOST.exe, then whatever services were being started by that instance (which may be 10 or 12) will all stop. So while it will fix the problem of lag/cpu usage, it will not fix the problem completely.

Thanks, I'm still having problems though, even after turning off DEP. I have moved all my data to another partition and reformat/reinstall Windows XP.

I think my problem(s) may lie in that I installed the Microsoft Dual-Core Hotfix, as well as AMD's Dual Core Optimizer and CPU Drivers.

According to someone at Neowin.net in a guide they wrote, you are not supposed to install both the Microsoft Hotfix and AMD's Dual-Core Optimizer, as it will cause nothing but Problems. They said in the Guide it was Recommended to install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer over the Microsoft Hotfix.

My problem(s) could also be that something got borked during installation of Windows XP, or During a driver update/install
