FBI crack down

I don't know if you guys saw the story in News Week, but here's what's happening... It seems like the government is getting really tough against software pirates, which I really could care less about. They already busted up some major groups at universities across the nation... Like MIT. Right, so, it's nice that they're taking down these groups that spew out copyrighted materials for the fun of it, but today a guy down the hall from me got his equipment seized by the FBI... (They took his computer and his DreamCast games but left his DreamCast........ ) He says he thinks his phone line was tapped... It's kinda scary. I wonder what will happen next?

Piracy has always been a big big problem here in India. Many people dont even know that what they are using is pirated software . Recently few steps have been taken to minimize piracy. Piracy report hotlines are one of them.Lets see how much difference does it make.

I guess they're sometimes right about students selling pirated software....after all, they gotta have some form of income to pay for tuition or dates. I just hope M$ doesn't just go rounding people up and turning them into instant suspects just because they had a burner installed.

well...... here we got the fedesoft... (like the FBI but for software....) when they get you..... they get you...

seriously.... if you are caught, they don't just seize your stuff.... they send you to jail for like 10.000 years... big stuff

but we are lucky, if they wanna catch all the pirates, the will have to jail every owner of a computer

PS: if you are caught with pirated software and a CD writer, you go to jail like for 100.000 years

one kid in college once paid me in copies of some of his software to do his math takehome test, does that count for selling pirated stuff?

Unless he paid for both of the copies or is specifically permitted to make unauthorized copies (ha), then yes.

well, no, but he paid for his CD burner, so that should count

(note: this post is of an individual opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of NGemu, or ever Ryoga for that matter

I'm sure they'd think so. BTW, the Daily Show had a most interesting piece on this story ("f*** Finland").

....and I think they're making deals with the antivirus companies so their DAT updates won't detect it.

It says that at the moment anti virus companies will not stop updating their definitions unless ordered by law, which hasn't happened yet.
