Speed Problems
I've read a large portion of the advice regarding emulation speeds. I've been using ePSXe to play a number of games, and I haven't had speed problems (or if I did, I could fix them with relative ease). However, in attempting to play both FFVI (from Final Fantasy Anthology) and Wild Arms, I've run into some weird issues. Edit: Scratch that, it looks like all of my games are running way too fast. I didn't change any settings... I don't quite understand why the program would suddenly run differently without any user changes. First, both games would run at about half speed, with my typical settings. I tried everything I knew to fix this, then finally gave up and restarted my computer. After the restart, I tried one more time, and now the games run at double, triple, or other insane speeds. Again, I've tried varying the FPS limits, but it doesn't seem to make any difference - though, it should be noted that whenever I attempt to set any FPS limits below 30, I get really, really chunky playing (i.e., the game will run for half a second, then freeze for a full second). My configuration is below: Windows XP Pro SP2 P4 Processor 3.00 GHz 1 GB RAM Radeon X800 256 MB I'm using the Eternal SPU Plugin 1.5, though I have two others - but on those, the games get even faster - the core ePSXe SPU (1.52) and the P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver (1.9) For video: Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.6 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON X800 XL x86/SSE2 Resolution/Color: - 1024x768 Window mode - Internal X resolution: 1 - Internal Y resolution: 1 - Keep psx aspect ratio: off - No render-to-texture: off - Filtering: 0 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - TexWin pixel shader: off - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 1 - Framebuffer effects: 2 - Framebuffer uploads: 1 Misc: - Scanlines: off - Mdec filter: on - Screen filtering: on - Shader effects: 0/1 - Flicker-fix border size: 0 - GF4/XP crash fix: off - Game fixes: on [00000002] This is really bugging me. I hope you guys can find something that I'm doing wrong. Last edited by StellarFury; March 18th, 2007 at 20:57.. Reason: New Information |

I think so. But the Win 95/98 compatibility fix doesn't work with me. It makes any game hang as soon as I try to run it. Is there another way to turn it off? Also, does it make sense that it would work for at least a year without any problems and then just now start going into overdrive?

Okay, so I tried that whole patch thing. It said it patched it, but the problem is still there. What else could be causing the problem? ... Anybody? This is the way the "READ THIS THREAD" thread ended. I don't get how this could just happen. Something HAD to have changed, and I don't know what it is. Is there really no way to stop ePSXe from playing games like this, once it starts? Because my emulator has essentially been rendered worthless, and I would like to have it fixed. All right, I've tested the emulator on a bunch of games that used to run at normal speeds, FFVII, MGS, etc. Still getting the 3x or greater speeds. I even downloaded the latest version of the OGL2 plugin. Still getting crazy speeds. Something has happened that is making the emulator ignore frame limiting. Has anyone heard anything relating to this issue, or am I just wasting my time here? Last edited by StellarFury; March 19th, 2007 at 04:02.. Reason: New Testing |

Actually, I solved the problem. Wasn't related to HT at all. It was, strangely enough, fixed by messing with the sound plugin. Had to switch to "SPUasync" in "Wait" mode, and suddenly everything was moving at exactly the right speed. I don't know why that worked, but it did.

That uses the SPU plugin to regular the FPS instead of the GPU, which is another way of fixing the problem.
