Upgrade Question!?
Well i think it's time to upgrade my system , so far i've gotten new ram a new hdd and now i'm looking for a new proc , a new mobo and a new video card. For the moment i can buy the intel c2d E4300 , or for half the price of the c2d i can buy the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600 or for the same price as the E4300 i can get the AMD Athlon X2 4200. If i force take some cash from my graphics card budget i can get the E6300. What do you recomend? If i buy the X2 3600 i can get a more powerfull graphics card , a 7900GS or a x1950pro. if i buy the E4300 i can get the 7600GT or the x1900. |

What I suggest. Get the E6300 with a Asus P5B Vanilla or Deluxe depending on your budget. With a good cooler (so you can overclock it nicely). Then I suggest you wait until mid range DX10 cards come out and buy one of them, 7900's are pretty much just stupid to buy at the moment as they cost alot and you need to upgrade it soon anyway. I really don't advise buying a X2, the C2D in terms of PCSX2 (and pretty much everything else) performs so much better (mainly because you can thrash them in overclocking). That was my $0.02 Note: While you really should of posted this in the Hardware foru, im goign to leave it here on the basis that your asking about performance in PCSX2, if you would like it moved, drop me a pm or reply here. |

Agreed with emwearz. The E6300 is one of the most overclockable cpu with proper hardwares. If you're on a budget, you could step up one level and get the P5B-E which can surely get you up to 3.6GHz or more with the right hardwares of course ^)^. You'd need some good DDR2 800 for that to happen.

What kinda RAM u got? I'm guessing DDR cause Athlon boards don't support DDR2 afaik. If u have DDR2 that'll make the choice easy. also note your OC will suck if you only have DDR (with Core 2). If you have only DDR make sure your chipset doesn't require DDR2 with Core 2. |

I have a 2x512 DDR2 800Mhz Ram , got them at a bargain. Emwearz isn't the e4300 more overclockable? And yes i'm probably gonna wait for a mid range dx10 card , but for the moment i'm gonna buy miself a 6600GT 256mb 256 bit. It's a really nice card and i can get it for about 46$ used for about 5 months. Thing is i was planning to make it a small unit and as silent as posible. |

Hmm, got the e6400 on a P5B @ 3Ghz...Replacing Memory didn't make the fps go up anymore, nor did clocking my cpu to 3,21Ghz. (for me: no difference in 533 or 800??) My bottleneck was my gfrx card. And after some VGA charts investigations, I found that the budget eVGA 8800gts 320mb (319 euro's) was the best buy for the money atm. Don't waste your money on anything else but that card, the x1950xt+, 7950GTX or GX2... Because all the latter are more expensive, make a easy jump to dx10. My few cents. |

Ok , i've been thinking to keep this rig next to my monitor and when i wanna watch a movie or smth in HD to take it to my plasma in the Living Room , i've found a particulary small case , the Antec NSK2400 that i like , but i don't think i can fit a c2d a nice mobo and any graphics card in that. Antec NSK2400 Media PC Case | silentpcreview.com here's a review of the Antec case , what do you think? What microatx board would your recomend for a c2d? The E4300 have a fsb wall at around 400! And the E6300 fsb wall? try 600+

MicroATX? Anything BUT the P5MX2-VM or the likes: no dualchannel, ddr2 533 max and I think even a FSB wall of 300... I don't remember. Anywho, good luck! |

Abit Fatality F-I90HD Procesor support Intel Core2 Quad, Core2 Duo, Pentium D Socket LGA 775 Chipset RS600/SB600 Format micro ATX FSB 1066 / 800MHz Memory Type dual-channel DDR2 Bus memory 800/667/533 It's about 140$. I've bought UMAX 1GB 800MHz DDR2 Ram and a 6600GT. Next i'm gonna buy the mobo , the proc and the case. For the moment i don't really give a rat's arse about the 8800gs , i'm looking into the 8600Gt that's smaller or something in that range. For the next few months the overclocked 6600 will do miracles for me

It's 354,3 USD here in Romania , compared to the 49$ 6600GT i'm gonna get it's way out of my league.

![]() Hopefully that 6X00gt won't bottleneck ur proc's speed... Nontheless, it's a good buy if you just need a pci-e vga card... Forget all I said, but never go cheap on your mobo! Last edited by nepsquare; February 28th, 2007 at 11:23.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

hehe actually that's more like 240 euro's. (canadian dollars...) - I guess they must manufacture them here (North America)? where are you from? anyways yeah for any gaming the 6600gt is gonna kill your performance, no doubt about it. for one, it's not a new gen proc (or even last gen, i guess new gen for nvidia is the 8x00 series). but if you're matching a Core 2 to that chip it's gonna be bottlenecked by your gfx card EVERY time. |
