Why Core 2 Due is better Pentium D?

Hi,

First i know this maybe not the right place to post this. But i'm posting this here cuz i think PCSX2 is best way to test CPU Performances

My question is the same as the topic title "Why Core 2 Due is better than Pentium D?"

I have compared between "Pentium Extreme Edition 965 Processor" Vs "Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual Core Processor" which one will be faster on PCSX2 and why ?

from what i read i see that "Core 2 Due" is much better than Pentium D.

Thanks!

because the Pentium D is based on pentium 4 architecture, which sucks ass, Core 2 however is loosely based on P3 which is very efficient for the clockspeed, they go faster than pretty much anything out there.

Thanks refraction, for the Answer,

Well i'm planning to buy a new computer So what do u advise me to buy "Intel® Core™2 Extreme X6800 (4MB L2 Cache,2.93GHz,1066 FSB)" or "Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB"

i don't know why the Price of "Intel Core 2 Extreme" much more than "E6600"

it is worth than E6600, which it will give me much more FPS Boot ?

Thanks

the x6800 will give you at most 20% more speed. there's no real difference between it and the e6600 apart from clock speed.

if you're willing to overclock (and you should be), that e6600 is a much better buy for the money, since people regularly run it at around 3.2ghz.

well probably a bit further than the e6600, but at certain levels the cooling becomes a problem.

it's -possible- to run the e6600, e6700 and x6800 cpus at 4.5ghz or higher, but it requires chilled-water cooling, phase change, or similar exotic means.

if you stick with air cooling, perhaps getting a high-end air cooler to replace intel's stock one (say a scythe ninja or similar) and increase the chip's voltage a bit, you could hit around 3.6ghz stably, with any of the core 2 duo chips.

The X6800 are for people with money to spend :P. Stick with the E6600 or E6400, both are superd performers.

the e6600 have more l2 cache than the e6400 (4 instead of 2 mb)... but i would recommend also the e6600 - this cpu have more over clocking potential than the xtreme series

In this thread there is a link to a article about intel price cuts and e6400 getting 4mb L2 cache. You'll have to wait for these for a while longer.

those will be the e6350 and e6450, due around april i believe. such a low multiplier can get you fsb-limited on your overclock.

The E6300 is not to blame if you can't get pcsx2 to work properly...I guess you have not read the configuration guide...

cidcarioca did you do a fresh install of windows when you first got your rig. Is Dual core set up correctly. Some games are also not compatible with MTGS.

I didn't have to do a patch from a fresh XP Pro install. Just let M$ update run, install and I was good.

The E6600 is a fine choice, best bang per buck. However, I read that the 2mb difference in cache is negligible unless you're an extreme gamer and/or work with editing videos and such. I think they said it's a 1-3% increase in performance from browsing the web to playing games.

yes i'll second that - the extra 2 mb L2 cache is not a big influence - just the CPU speed. You can save 100 bucks and get an E6300 (and overclock it nicely ) but as people have been saying, e6600 is a great deal
