Do sound cards affect PCSX2 performance?
Here's an interesting question................. Well, currently, I'm using my motherboards integrated sound, and have no problems with it. However, I remember in the old days (Pre Pentium 2 times.) that integrated sound cards (Or most integrated hardware anyway) does use processor power, especially when the sound quality is set to high. Do you think buying a PCI sound card will affect this gaming performance? Wil this have a noticeable performance increase in PCSX2 as well? Is my knowledge still true in this time and age? I'm actually thinking of posting in the hardware forum, but since I'm really looking for PCSX2 performance.... I decided to ask it here....

i don't think that your integrated sound chip decrease the cpu performance. I used my onboard soundchip for a while and i can't feel a difference between it and my SB Live 24Bit PCI Card. |

Not enough for most people to notice. Maybe the biggest difference comes in the 5.1 and stuff...but that's only if ur talking about having better quality sound +P...lol

If program uses EAX and this stuff, separate sound card is worth it (PC games...) PCSX2 AFAIK don't use this stuff, so it eats very little of CPU. not worth spending on it money IMO.

I don't think it give an effect on pcsx2 performance. I had build in sound card too.

some games require spu2 and thread mode, like KH so a better sound card might give up to a 5 fps boost or more but usually the graphic card processes slower than do sound card, so a better sound card might give you a huge delay between sound and subtitle/action/motion, like FFXII
