OK! Question WinXp ws Win2k

Good! Now for my question... How come from 11-15 fps ingame on Win2k i get as low as 2-3 fps (even lower) on winxp ?
And yes, WinXP has themes and server network services disabled.

lots of people have noticed tat 2k is quite a bit faster than xp. Not speaking of pcsx2 i mean. Anyway, keep in mind, xp is pretty much a BLOATED 2k. If you have 2k and your looking for speed instead of features, use 2k.

maybe because you have many sins ...hehhehe... sorry, just kidding.

Show us your computer spec.! and make sure there are no malware on your computer.

Maybe your computer spec hasn't reach the requirement for using WinXP...

my PC:
AMD Duron 1300 Mhz
396 RAM (PC2100)
HDD Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 (7200 RPM)
MB ECS K7VMM+ Rev 3.1 (no BIOS updates)
Leadtek A340T (GeforceFX 5200 128MB)

I remember having FAT32 on win2k while on XP I have NTFS.
Could this be a factor as well?

XP needs a better pc than 2k does.
And your pc seems not so good, sorry.
I think your main problem is the RAM!
But your CPU is not strong, too, but maybe enough (for XP).

graphic card should be ok when you overclock it and don't using AA or BF.

but the rest of the system is
you can be lucky when you reach 2fps in ffx ^^

@eyepopper776:
Where did you get 11-15 fps?

P.S. You should be satisfied, if you even can run a ps1 emulator without problems...

@Nightmare85:
I got 11-15 fps in FFX, the room where you get the filnt and withered bouquet. In most areas I get 7-9 fps (on win2k). RE4 got me 5-6 fps in closed areas and 3-4 in wide areas. (again, on win2k) BTW I don't use AA or BF.

PS: I smoked the PS1 emulators (WTF do you think i've beaten FF7-FF9).I also tested most GC emus and got 3-6 in 3D and 20-40 in 2D.

PS2: I can also play Gothic3 on my machine (Worse than LOW settings to get 50 fps, but still)

Windows 2k and Windows XP perform exactly the same...Slow fps have nothing to do with Windows (exclude Vista..) you have a antique pc so you get what you have...

Props for getting that far without getting frustrated by the lack of speed!

Just as I though...... an oldschool PC!

You should buy a better pc to emulate PS2 games AND to use WinXP

And it doesnt matter if you are using FAT 32 or NTFS cuz the performance has no different.
The difference is just about the security system on NTFS that not included in FAT32

considering the amount of ram he has, i would say that he will get much better performance out of 2k than xp. If he upgraded the ram, he would probably see somethign similar. Although i dont know how he is hitt 10-15 in final fantasy 10..

if you want even more speed why not switch to 98 or even 95.I think the guys should make a DOS emulator.Be serious win2k is better than XP but it lacks compatability.

Really sorry to bump up the thread but in the end I managed to give WinXp TEH FINGER. It still runs slower than on Win2k but wtf...

BTW the two reasons I replaced 2k were:
1) Security Updates
2) PCSX2 VM build - sadly this doesn't work so it falls as a reason.
No offense.

Anyway, keep up the good work pcsx2 team.(More SSE updates )

the fx5200 was by far _THE_ worst card i have ever owned. I also had a TNT2 and i used my tnt2 m64 a whole lot more than i ever used my fx5200. what does that tell you? The 5 series wasn't all that impressive because the six series was hot on it's heels and yah.. i only found more "issues" when i ran a fx5200 " overclocked edition from BFG" .. good company, bad chipset.

Well, my other choice is the incorporated S3 SavagePro 4 (32MB share). So I really don't have a choice in cards...

yah just forget ps2 emualtion.. thats what i am doing till i get new stuff.. and i even have a new computer.. no wonder why single core's are so cheap! aahaha just use your existing case / power / hd / cd and buy a new motherboard cpu combo.. i hear the core duo 1.86ghz is a cheap one and you can overclockit to around 3 ghz.. and shouldn't set you back more than 200 bucks or whatever. And then you can start saving for a nice card to throw in the pci express slot. Just go on amazon.com and start selling stuff around your house till you have enough moolah. My girlfriend works at the Theaters here (she manages them) so i have about 200 movie theaters sized custom posters from the box office i am selling.. and im selling a bunch of other crap like a cdrw i took out of my oem system when i put my Dual Layer dvd burner in and also an old dvd-rom , some network cards, just a bunch of crap.. and diablo 2 in the box, needfs most wanted in box, nwn diamond in box.. and im also gonna save some money up ..

the 5200 is the worst VGA in the entire VGA history , next to the Savage2000(with the not working TnL modul).Anyway yesterday i just played Rainbow Six Vegas on my PC wich is a 3500+ AMD64 with 768 ram and X1600XT(OC) and at a resolution of 1024x768 it ran beautifully.I doubt that PS2 games can even come close to that sort of graphics. So i really think there`s no need for a CPU upgrade just to play PS2 games. And Vista will bring a richer gaming experience , it`s now confirmed that Vista games will run faster than on XP , cause it will take full advantage of the hardware unlike XP .So my suggestion is waith for Vista. It`s amazing Vista installs faster than the XP but is 3 times bigger.
