Well, the Conroe's are just... Well... Really powerful.

I'm pretty sure they also have SSE4. That won't help much now, but in the future it will, and they overclock really well.

^^^ agreed a million times over ^^^

The X6800 extreme blows the X2 5400+ out of the water, but you'll have to get a new socket 775 mobo, then again you probably will anyway

Even some of the lower end core 2 duos beat the X2 5400+ hands down

Intel wins.
But AMD will strike back.
Sooner or later
(And I say this as an EX-Intel-Fan )

But you could buy a cheaper CPU and overclock it, if you want.
And you should upgrade your other components, too.
(That is my opinion, because only a good cpu doesn't help you everywhere! )

Though truthfully the AMD only ever had one time kill over intel in the history. And that was the AMD athlon 1.33GHz...so we don't know when AMD will come back...it's quite a shame. But Intel is still wining...lol

Sadly though, even AMD's current style right now is comparing the Athlon64 X2 to the Pentium D and not the Core2Duo.... Being said, the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 is a whole lot better than the fastest Athlon64 X2 right now....

..... And PLEASE DON'T use something like a GeForce 5500FX along with that motherboard or I'm gonna cry.....

I don't how many time i have to repeat myself saying this...but here's the sad facts, an Amd Fx/X2 clocked @ 3.2GHz is equivalent 2.40GHz Core 2 cpu. Core 2 processors doesn't need a high clock to achieve excellent performance because it can do more operation per clock cycle.

Amd oc'ed @3.2GHz = Core2 clocked @2.40GHz
---------- @4.8GHz = --------------@3.60GHz
