Now that I've set up my screen from scratch again anime doesn't seem anywhere near as "heavy" anymore so I'll probably get back to watching what little I have left...well once I get over all the games I'm playing instead of watching anime. So eventually I'll be more active in here again, unless real life makes me less active overall. Perhaps now I'll finally be able to enjoy Death Note the way everyone else has...I've been finding it so hard to get into.
hmm was it your monitor that was messed up, or your video player/filter settings?

i had thought i grew out of anime too, and stopped watching it for months.
now that i'm watching it again, i'm enjoying it.
i think i mostly just needed a big break from it; and i needed to stop watching the low-quality mediocre series.
my tastes have also changed throughout the years.

i really had thought i grew out of anime, to the point where it all seemed stupid and childish to me. considering i'm able to enjoy it now, it makes me think i might never completely grow-out of anime. i just need to have enough free-time, and be in the right mood to watch it.

although one thing about getting older is, anime becomes less and less relevant. most anime is about middleschoolers or highschoolers. i wish more anime would be made with older characters so its more relevant.

as for death note, imo if you don't like light-kun, then you won't like the series. i thought light was awesome so i enjoyed it; although i don't really consider it one of my favorite anime. i particularly didn't like the girl character; the eps with her brought down the series for me.

Personally that's how i watch anime... i take big breaks and when i do watch it i go in a frenzy/marathon, that's another reason why i don't watch ongoing.

i started watching "One Outs".
on anime planet they said it was similar to Death Note, which is why I tried watching it (i don't find it very similar; both the main characters are smart strategists, but that's the only similarity)

its been decent, but its about baseball and its already getting repetitive/boringish at episode 6.
no-matter how cool the main character is, if the show is about something boring like baseball, there's only so-much that can be done to keep it entertaining.
sports are just boring as ****, and baseball especially...

going to watch a couple more episodes and hope it gets less repetitive...

No it was definitely my monitor since all my games also look much better now. Basically what I'd done before is try and use the colour wizard on the monitor to set my colours, in it I had a square inside a coloured triangle and once I'd made sure that the square showed no colour bias there was a slider where I should try and make it sink into the background and well by following those instructions I'd basically managed to eliminate half my black and white levels. And then I'd set my brightness quite low too since I didn't want too much glare and was compensating for all of this with a ton of contrast which reduced the black and white levels even further and using way tooo much sharpness to try and differentiate what remained. And then boosting those settings through the nVidia control panel for more visual bang and colour richness. As a result anime became hard to watch for me without my noticing why.

I've never used any of the filters on the player's, I prefer to watch shows as they were originally intended to be seen....well as much of that as my bad monitor settings allowed anyways.

I liked him...up until the point he tried to kill L. At that moment he lost his sense of justice and became more of a murdering nutjob. Still I want to actually finish the show...but I don't want to watch the next episode at the same time lol.

yeh i have a similar feeling right now with One Outs.
I just want to finish it, for the sake of finishing it.
I've dropped quite a few series in the past, but I don't like doing so after i've watched more than ~6 episodes.

I don't really mind highschoolers or the like but I do agree that seeing protagonists like Gatts(Berserk) or Spike(Cowboy Bebob) would be pretty nice change... Where are all the grownups?!? They're completely nonexistant at the moment!

I fangasmed at the bleach part. Collaborations open up so many possibilities, people can just focus on their specific parts and it ends up being condensed awesome.

that was cool, the scenes they took from the anime were all very badass high-action footage.

but the sad thing is the badass type-footage in the anime themselves are extremely rare.

yeah those 2 are awesome. for some reason grownup cool protagonists like those are extremely rare in the anime world.

even in shows like naruto where they 'grow up', the characters are still extremely young (like ~16).

Guts was awesome indeed, one of my favorite protagonists, there's also Alucard though (i also like him cause of his origins, his the anime version of one of my favorite historical figures after all ).

PS: video is awesome.

I started watching Fate Stay(I'm watching Zero at the same time) Watched half of it, liked it so far. Doesn't feel odd and the continuity is well done from series to series.

Started watching Soul Eater again, never got past the first ep last time since I got some new game around then and my priorities changed (and I found it really hard to focus due to my monitor settings as I mentioned before). Interesting show. Death the Kid is awesome lol, I love his OCD about symmetry and his guns are hilarious. Only thing I don't like so far is the excessive fan service, ok well it's obvious most of it is there purely for humour, but I'm hoping the show gets a bit more serious. Then again I am only on ep5.

I'd say that they're rare these days, there used to be more... Gatts, Spike, Vash( Just remembered him...) and Alucard(thanks for reminding of him strike!) are all kinda old already, they're all characters from the last millennia(or at least most are, not exactly sure)... And just remaking Berserk doesn't mean that it's changing!

Yeah, the characters just upgraded from middle school to highschool so to say... it would be cool to see Naturo actually grow up at some point but I think the whole series is gonna end after the war so I doubt it...

Alucard is awesome, especially if you're watching the Ultimate which finally tells you who and what he actually is... I really hope they make Hellsing: Dawn at some point.

It never really gets too "serious" but it gets really good later on... And although the ending is kinda nonsensical I liked it. Too bad the manga is just better, you should take a look after you finish with the show.

And wait till you get to see the Excalibur...

a while back i watched ~4 eps of that show, and then i got bored with it.
it was too oriented for kids imo; i didn't really care for all the little-kid characters.
it kindof reminded me of MAR, which also wasn't very good.

^Actually MAR Heaven is quite interesting (if you manage to get over at least the first quarter), it appears to be childish due to the protagonist, princess and the annoying monkey being kids, but its not really that bad, especially as Allan, Dorothy and Nanashi join the party. How should i say this, it starts bad but it gets better and better as it progresses, there where also times when the main characters where more ruthless then the actual villains . At first i had a real wtf time with it i mean it felt so kiddy, (sticked for Dorothy there was something about her that made me curious), then the show jumps between kiddy and a bit more up level keeps going like that, at that time i was wtf, then i understood what was going down, it kept a style of realism sort of, the protagonist was a child and since he was the main they did his personality accordingly, this gives the childish aspect of the anime (well plus princess and Monkey/Jack), actually the princess is a bit more complicated then appearing at first, anyway even if he was childish the world around him wasn't, that's what was interesting. All and all i'm glad i've stuck with it, the protagonist does indeed mature some, although it didn't seem all that promising, at first it ended up pretty good with a few surprises of its own to give and some sets of drama you really wouldn't come to expect. The only character i could have done without was Jack... The show would have been great without it.

Really loved this op of it: https://vimeo.com/31118653 (i tried to upload to youtube but it got deleted ) ...

As for Soul Eater i didn't like it much myself...

--------------------------------------------------------

An visual VA chart for Muv-Luv Total Eclipse appeared XD:

And a new trailer XD:

Quote:
"Все смешалось в небе, и свет, и тьма. И вот, наконец, явился Пророк."

"Отчаяние переполнило мир. По желаниям людей Пророк был послан свыше."

----------------------

Translation (google):

"All mixed up in the sky, and light and darkness. And then, finally, was a prophet."

"Despair overwhelmed the world. By the desires of the people the Prophet was sent from above."
That seems to be a reference to Muv-Luv Alternative the visual novel, but i ain't sure.

This light novel adaptation looks more and more promising XD.

From what i heard they seem to be pushing it for a western release as well.

Soul Eater is one of the darker shounen out at the moment. Episode 4 was actually the first real episode, the other episodes were character introductions. The colors used in the anime were way to bright imo, it degraded the art where as most adaptations improve it.

I also thought Black Star looked incredibly dumb in the anime, they kept his original design.

i don't remember much about it, but i did stick with the show for quite a bit.
i watched like 60+ episodes.
i remember hoping it would get better, and it never really did imo.

You have to watch ep 4 and 5. That's when the show lets you know a little of what it's about.

And that's hardly kids entertainment, teenagers sure (who are technically kids to us in our 20s) but just because it's not as dark and/or serious as a show of it's premise should be doesn't make it a kids show, that's selling it really short.
Dunno about MAR, haven't seen it yet.

i feel videos like the one xblade posted make the show seem cooler than it is (just like in that other video posted earlier where it showed badass clips from bleach/naruto, but that gives a misleading interpretation of the shows, since those scenes are pretty rare).
i 'may' give it another shot sometime though if i'm bored enough and don't have anything else to watch; but its unlikely.
