Another "building new comp" thread
I'm building this new comp and I need suggestion on what type of memory I should get on it. I'm not an overclocker but I might try it out in the future. How much should I get as well? Is 2 GB more than enough? What about my video card and everything else, is there any bottlenecking going on? What about the power supply, is it good for my system? CPU Fan as well... good? You can save more $$$ if you go with my recommendation . P5B Deluxe is as good as P5W DH Deluxe. For rams, the good ones (2gigs DDR2 800) cost from $220 to $300+. $184 cpu Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor - Retail $179 OEM E6300 ClubIT Product - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2MB L2 LGA775 Processor OEM HH80557PH0362M $180 motherboard Newegg.com - ASUS P5B Deluxe ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $160 graphic card Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900GT 100189L VIVO HDCP Video Card - Retail

Don't get that X1900GT as it is a gimped version of what it used to be. Read an article at Anandtech or Tomshardware saying they cut down on the core speed from somewhere near 600, to 512, when they were phasing out the 1900GT. A 1950Pro would be a safer bet. Also, the following article is interesting if you wonder on getting a 256 or 512mb card/

LOL you guys makes me laugh...Isn't it obvious that when playing games at high resolution need more memory? the 256mb failed from 1600X1200 to 2048X1536 resolutions. Beside, not many ppl have a 21+ in monitor. Also you need a big @ss screen just to play at 2048x1536...

Some games that are coming out do require 512 meg cards to run at higher texture levels though. Some tests around the web have also shown that 256 meg cards do have a limit and will sometimes fail to run at certain HD resolutions and AA/AF. For the most part though, if you're limited to 1280x1024 or even 1600x1200, the different memory sizes won't make much difference to you in most games. Personally though, I'd rather get a 512 meg card since there will be more and more games requiring it for higher level graphics.

Beside, playing at a smaller resolution will get you better fps in your games. Also, most/some people might even still have a 15'in monitor so i think a lots people played their game at 1280x1024 is their norm

Ok suggestions noted. I'll get the CPU and video card later (a month or two from now) just to see if the prices go down or something new comes along.

I say wait for some midranged DX10 card to appear such as 8600GT that will surely cost $250 or less in case you planned to keep the system for a while. I'm pretty sure these will arrive within 2 months. If you're into overclocking (I'd really think it would be worth considering it this time), as Conroe E4300 will appear in January and will be slightly cheaper than E6300 even but for overclocking this CPU will even be better suited. More info why here (<- also contains some basic important-to-understand info before buying or attempting to overclocking a computer).
