FF9 Menu Slowdown
I'm running FF9 on ePSXe 1.5.2 Windows and I'm running into performance issues in menus. During normal gameplay, I get 60 FPS, but when I enter any menu, this drops to around 30-40 FPS. What are some things that can be done to fix this? Relevant Info: ePSXe 1.5.2 --Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8 --Null2's Audio Driver 1.3 CPU: Intel Core Duo 2.0 GHz Mem: 2.0 GB Video: NVIDIA Quadro NVS M110 (128 MB Video RAM) Sound: Sigmatel C-Major Audio Do note that I am running the latest possible drivers for the above hardware. On the same machine, FF9 runs fine under linux. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

I remember this happened to me when I had texture filtering set to 6. If that's the case...try putting it to 4, or even 0. You can change it in game, by pressing Delete and then using Pgup/pgdown to navigate, home/end to change options, and Insert for help.

Changing the texture filtering from 6 to 4 helped a lot (although the text is jagged now). I'm running at 1280x1024 non-fullscreen, by the way (which I know is high, but now the frame rate stays within 50-60 fps). Thanks! |

You can mess with the different filtering settings, see which ones slow you down and which don't. If that fails, then maybe just turn down your resolution, seems a bit high for your card to handle.

Yeah. Unfortunately, my LCD's native resolution is 1920x1200. 1024x768 is very, very small on the screen I have.

Well play in the full screen and change stretching mode to 1. That way you will have the right aspect ratio and you won't have to run the ePSXe in windowed mode (if that is the reason you play the game that way).

I would've done that if the drivers allowed me to do that. Unfortunately, NVIDIA is currently behind the curve for it's Windows Vista drivers. Oh sorry. I see what you mean now. Running 960x600 causes some interesting things to happen in my host OS too. Last edited by netbaron; December 22nd, 2006 at 02:10.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
