Pentium D Performance
Is anybody who is using a pentium D 8xx processor able to get decent frame rates in the ps2 configuration? Or in any games? I have an HP a1532n with 2.8 GHz 820 dual core with Geforce 7300LE. I want to know if it's worth it to upgrade to a 7800 GT or so for performance increase, or if I'm wasting my time. I know Conroe/Kentsfield's perform exceptionally well, but my Mobo is incompatible with them.

FFX should be 'playable', like 30 fps, maybe 40 if you overclock. If you want to know if your GPU is slowing you down, play a game and while it's playing open the task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC) and look at the CPU usage. If the CPU usage is less than ~100%, then your GPU is the bottleneck. If the CPU usage is fairly steady at ~100% then it's still not fast enough to require a better GPU.

I don't have any of my games ripped yet (I've been studying for exams)... but I did dump my bios to test just the ps2 config (browser setup, system configuration). I have two computers, one is a laptop (Pen M 760 Dothan w/ 1 GB DDR2 ram, ATI X300 mobility 128) other is desktop (Pen D 820, 2 GB RAM, Geforce 7300LE). On my laptop with the ps2 config I can get ~40-50 fps, and it is obviously not dual core. I neglected to mention before I was using ZeroGS 0.96.0 with PS2.0 for my pentium d desktop. I actually tried all four graphics plugins that came with the latest release. I also did have both MTGS and dual core on (I also tried with only one at a time). Quote:
