Playable games on a notebook

Ive been trying to play lots of games but none are seeming to work. Is there anyone with a notebook like me able to play any kind of game with good fps besides these: Disgaea 1&2, La pucelle tatics, Makai Kingdom, & Phantom Brave? I have all these games and are playable only because They are turnbased RPG'S. My specs: My processor is a AMD Turion 64.
I also have these letters : MMX, 3dNow, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, and x86-64
(What do they mean?)

I dont know my RAM but it showed my core speed going at 1989.5 MHz. Is that good?

With this speed and processor what games if any would be playable on my notebook. Also what would be the cheapest desktop to buy upgraded enough to play 3d games like FFX cause our desktop has viruses and is slow.

Well, like you said, 2D games are the only one you have a chance of running decent, but probably not full speed.

Besides, video cards are important as well. But since it's a laptop, we need to know what video card your laptop has.

If you want a desktop that has a minor chance of playing FFX in full speed, here's my guess..... :

Motherboard = AMD Socket AM2 ($60)
CPU = AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ ($280)
Video Card = Radeon X1600 ($140)

That's 480 bucks. Do you think it's worth it? You decide.

Ive been running FFX without any problems other than sound echo (probely configuration) and FMV's (have pixel disortion). The FMV's are not just laptop problems. FFX gets around 30-45 in normal and with vu skip close to 55-60. I have the dual core Turion which you may not. I was getting better speeds but I think that background programs are slowing me down now (Nortons Anti-virus etc.)

I am about 9 hours into FFX on my Dell notebook:

Intel Centrino 2.0ghz
1gb RAM
GeforceGo6800 256mb

Graphics plugin:
Zerogs 0.96 non-SSE (my rig is SSE enabled, but it seems to work faster w/out)
bilinear filtering, no AA

Sound plugin:
PEOps SPU 2, Gaussian interpolation, but nothing else checked. (I have tried to check all of the Enable boxes and they always slow things down)

Most of the game runs between 40-60 fps with vu-skip enabled. Closer to 30 w/out frame skipping in most locations. I'm also playing with GFMVs are pixellated because of macro-something-or-other that has nothing to do with your settings or PC. Good luck!

But seriously, the only problem I have with that kind of setup is only the processor, you see very few games actually support dual cores, which means an equal speed but single core will run at the same speed as dual core if the game doesn't support dual cores, and it's price is a huge problem as well.
