Chrono Cross battle problem

I've gotten the game to work alright, except that when I'm in battle most of the time when I choose to attack or use elements the game freezes and crashes my computer along with it. It doesn't matter who attacks, or where the battle is, or what attack it is. It only happens in battle.

I'm using EPSXE 1.5.2 with

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76
Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing [32 Bit]
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
Textures:
- R8G8B8A8
- Filtering: 4
- Hi-Res textures: 0
Device: - VRam size: 256 MBytes
Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 60
Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 0
- Framebuffer access: 1
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: off
Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00001000]

and my sound is

[checked] Enable Sound; CDDA sound; XA sound; SPU IRQ hack

EternalSPU 1.41
Device: Directsound
Buffer: 60
Audio out: SPUasync Mode:Wait
Game fix: Update before accesing registry; SPU IRQ-wait CPU action

Can anyone help me? I've fiddled around with the settings for months now and nothing helps.

If memory serves, try using ePSXe 1.6.0.
Set your Eternal's audio to SPUasync, Smooth, with a buffer of 32.

I think CC should be played with 1.5.2. I played it for a bit on there, no problems at all for me. How about the "nice" preset in the GPU plugin?
