Can't connect to the Internet. Ip problem?

I got a Ps2 slim version and i tried using a crossover cable to connect it to my pc directly so i could donwload or upload my saves. FlashXp connected but it couln't show me the memory card folder but that's another story.
In order to get FlashXp to connect to Execftp (running in my ps2) i had to change my pc's ip, gateway and subnet mask. I use Cable internet and it assigns those values automatically so i don't need to input anything.

After unpluging the crossover cable and connecting my normal ethernet cable from the cable modem to the Lan card and changing the values to "get an Ip address automatically" so everything would be back to normal it didn't work. It told me the Connection was limited so i couldn't receive any data.

I tried canging the values and then reverting them back to "autodetect" but it didn't solve it. I disabled and then enabled the connection and it didn't work. Lastly i uninstalled my card and reinstalled to no solve so i reseted my cable modem to no avail. I was reseting my pc from time to time but it didn't work.
Finally i reseted it without moving anything and it magically worked again.
It has happened 2 times already and the first time i just reseted it once.

What do i need to do so i can't get my cannection to normal everytime i connect my ps2 to my lan card?
And why i could connect to my ps2 but i couldn't see the mc folder? (this last one is a plus, i'll send a image of some good ice cream to the one who solves it )

Throw in a cheapo pci nic and connect the ps2 over crossover to that. That way you don't have to unplug your internet connection. Cheapest solution if you don't want to buy a router.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to waste 10 bucks for another card and my pci slots are full, plus the time of transfering saves is very minimal.

What i want to know is how many time do i have to wait or what do i have to do so my new ip settings are normal again and my modem logs on automatically after i have chenged them to autodetect.

I'd recommend before connecting the PS2 to your computer via the network cable, "release" the connection with your ISP first:

Go to start->run-> type cmd, when the old fashioned DOS windows comes out, type ipconfig /release. That should release your connection, then do whatever you have to do in order to connect your PS2 to the computer. When done, reestablish the gateway, network mask, etc back as they were, then connect the network cable from the cablemodem back to your Computer. After doing that do: start->run-> type cmd, and type ipconfig /renew.

That should request to the DHCP server for an IP address for your computer having finally fully connection with your ISP without any problem, check if there's any error or look for the cablemodem's "cable" led which indicates that the modem is connected to your ISP.
