Quick question about VBA versions

Hi guys, I was just wondering what versions of VBA are the best, and what ones are compatible with a cabinet setup (boot to full screen, exit with esc). Personally I use VBA Smooth, but I havent found a cabinet version of that. I did manage to hack the exe to set esc to exit the program, and if u set auto hide menus then it works well. Ill attach the exe in case anyone would like it.

1.6 or 1.7 would be the best for the most part, although the most recent builds have better compatibility with some newer games.
Perhaps the SDL versions would work better in a cabinet setup?

From what I've heard, the only up-side to the older versions of VBA is the speed, which I'm not worried about as I can get full speed out of the latest versions, so I'd rather go for compatibility. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

He implied that older versions were faster.

Version 1.8 introduced a whole friggin SLEW of new bugs, some of which have been fixed in various custom versions, but by no means all. There is really no single "best" version, it all depends on exactly what you want out of it. If you want speed, go for an older version. If you want to hack cheat codes, use VBA-H (by far the best cheat searching/adjusting features). If you want compatability with newer games, 1.8x (or a custom version thereof) is your best bet. On the other hand, if gameboy mono/color is important to you, there have been reports of some issues with GB/GBC in 1.8 (I think there were also some issues with some older GBA games and VBA1.8, but I'm not certain).
Speed issues aside, I think the best all around version right now is the most recent spacey's build. If we could get the cheat hacking stuff from VBA-H added to spacey's build, it'd be really good.

i hack cheats, but vbah is based on 172, and some new games have problem with this version (example: monster house have a lot of graphical glitchs and sometimes the game crashs) so i need to use 1.8, and the problem is which the vbaSDL can't read 1.8 save files (quick saves)... anyway, vbah is slower than 1.8
