Problems with FF9

I've been trying to play FF9 recently and I keep having pausing problems. I am running ePSXe 1.5.2 and am running the game off the CD. Whenever I go into battle, the game pauses up, and I think it has something to do with my sound plugin, which is Eternal SPU 1.4.1. This also happens at random points on the field and world maps, and during battle. Is there some setting that I can use that will fix it? I've tried pretty much everything I could think of. I have the FF9 fix on, but it still doesn't help.

Thanks that helped most of the problem. Now I have some other, less important problems. When Vivi casts fire it slows down a few frames, regardless of video settings. This is the only spell that it happens with so far though. Another thing is, that when I use 2xSaI(Hi-res textures: 1) I get these weird black lines around the pre-rendered background. Switching to Hi-res: 2 fixes this, but I was wondering if there is any way I can get the lines to disappear while using Hi-res: 1? I like the way the game looks with this setting(besides the black lines obviously). I've read that you should turn of all AA and AF when playing a PSX emulator, but I have a 64MB Mobility Radeon X300, and it only has "Application Preference". Is that the same thing?

It is true that ePsxe has lot of bug. So try the new emulator for PSX. Its PSX 1.5. You can download it from www.ngemu.com . Have fun

as long as you turn app preference ON it should keep it off, as long as a program isn't asking for it. damn crappy ATi drivers....

anyway, hi-res textures causes a lot of problems. just turn that setting to 0.

post your graphics settings.

Sorry if the picture is pretty big, but my desktop resolution is 1400x1050. I don't really have the patience to cut and paste right now, so I just used print screen. Let's just hope that the picture shows up. I also have my video card's OpenGL settings shown.

ok well, i dont think your computer can handle all that. if you want to keep that res, turn off texture filtering and hi-res textures.

you can futz around with render modes if you like. you can lower the resolution to get a definite speed boost (but non native resolutions look like crap on laptop screens..)

definitely put stretching mode to 0. as long as you have a 4x3 res, you don't need to mess with stretching modes.

Actually the resolution doesn't make a difference. I get the same performance with an 800x600 window, as I do with 1400x1050 full screen. I've been messing with the shader options, and that helps smooth out the picture. Now it's kind of hit and miss with the spell slowdown, as sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. I set the shaders to 1/3, and it looks fine. I tried GLSlang smoothing, but it always halved my framerate in battle and menu. I would say that it was just a framerate dip, but it always drops to exactly 30.0fps. Also, shaders seem to have little to no effect on my performance(aside from the stated GLSlang problem). Also, I turned off hi-res textures and left filtering at 4. Also I can't change the render mode, as that is the only one that works. I'll try this config for now.
