AFAIK you can't move keys between accounts. I could be wrong. You should have thought about that BEFORE you bought the game maybe?

Actually you can mail the boxed version WITH the CD Key to Valve and they can move the keys for you, may seem like a pain in the ass but that is in fact the only way to do it.

Edit: Also, in the future I recommend you buy your games through Steam. You could have bought Half-Life 2 Silver and gotten HL2, HL2DM, HL:S, and DOD:S. At least, that's what I did. Meh all this Steam talk makes me want to play through HL2...

I still can't even see why Valve bothers with retail except to save people time from downloading the .GCF's and other files.

Haven't you checked Steam's actual FAQs yet.

To save you time:

Pretty stupid call buying a second hand online-only game. You wouldn't buy Guild Wars second hand, now would you.

from the steam faqs:

Quote:
CD Key Reset Process Guidelines

If you recently purchased a used copy of a game which requires activation on Steam and are encountering an error message which states that your CD Key is registered to another account, you will need to contact us to have the CD Key reset so you may use it.

Depending upon the CD Key and the associated subscriptions within Steam, this process may be completed by contacting Steam Support (see the link at the bottom of this FAQ for details) or it may require mailing the physical CD Key in for review.

Note: We cannot reset CD Keys which have been disabled for violations of the Steam Subscriber Agreement and/or End User License Agreement or banned by VAC for cheating infractions.

i hope that is not banned or something..

Then why didn't you just contact Steam in the first place? Wouldn't they be more educated in helping you with this problem?

i think everyone was confused because, well, your original post was very vague. it seems that you forgot a word or two...

maybe if you had said "time" then it would be different...people are trying to give you advice on what to do when it's obvious that for that, you should've just asked Steam in the first place (they have forums too...although, theirs is pretty awful).

Wait did you buy DoD retail or DoD:S retail? Just curious, upsets me when people refer to the Source version as just DoD. Same with CS/CS:S
