FF9 D3D optimizations OR multi-monitor support in OGL?
Helloh, first poster here. This will be bit of a b1tch to explain, so here goes: * I play FF9-NTSC, ePSXe 1.6, Pete's D3D (due to multi-monitor support), works fine except that I get horrible music slowdowns in GUI-intense screens. Enabling Frame Skip seems to remedy that, but then the music timing becomes all-out unstable - sounds like the drummer is drunk. So, I'm looking either for a tweaking guide for Pete's D3D plugin to stabilize the music, or a tip on how to force Pete's OGL2 to render to my secondary screen (my TV). I have a Radeon 9800. Update: I dimly recall finding (can't seem to find it again) a thread discussing multi-monitor support, and the jury was still out on whether or not it was actually possible. I've tried moving the game window to my TV and hitting alt-enter, but that obviously just screws the whole game up. Last edited by teetow; April 24th, 2006 at 01:30.. |

I have played FF9 once on two monitors using OpenGL2 2.8. Both were operating at 1024x768 so I have set the window mode and set the resolution to 2048x768 and moved the window to fit on the 2 monitors. If you want to configure FF9 for OpenGL2 2.8 look here.

Btw, found the thread, but it doesn't seem conclusive. |

well i'm not sure what you're getting at. all you want to do is play PSX games on your TV? i've done this before, there are two options. keep in mind i have an Nvidia card. 1. set your primary monitor to the TV screen 2. set it to "clone" mode, which displays the same thing on both. if you want to multitask (aka, play ePSXe on one monitor and browse the web or something on the other) i'm pretty sure it's impossible. also, i recall having 2 monitors with extended desktop and ePSXe played like crap if i moved the window over to the other monitor.

I've got an ATi card, and I know the fps can take a huge hit when in the menus, I think it has something to do with a certain setting, however I do not know which one, and I didn't bother with it myself because it dropped to 50fps, which is just enough for fullspeed (I'm pal) Anyway, if you want to enable tv-out, right click on your desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Displays tab -> take a look at my screenie ![]() I hope that helps. As for the slowdown, try using Pete's OGL2 plugin, and instead of the 2xSaI use the 'stretch' option for the textures, maybe it helps.

OK, so one more attempt at explaining =) The key here is that only Pete's D3D renderer allows for specifying which rendering device (e.g. screen) to use. In my case, it's "Radeon 9800 Secondary", which is my TV. I definitely need to avoid cloning, since I at times need to have information present on my main screen. OGL/OGL2 doesn't seem to have this feature, if I understood the thread I posted earler, where Pete explains the situation. It's possibly a limitation in the drivers, although I was hoping something had happened since the thread was written. I guess I'm back to tweaking the D3D plugin to avoid FF9 slowdowns in menus and pre-battle swirl, then. Any pointers? |

the 9800pro is good enough to use d3d with any settings on any resolution, pretty much. so for slowdowns, i think the problem is just that secondary monitor thing. for battle swirls, you might be at a loss, just because that;s the nature of D3D. it seems like you're gonna have to make do with clone or making TV the only output.

Well, you know what they say... When you run out of good ideas, try the crappy ones. I switched to PSXeven, with the Software rendering plugin. Looks a bit uglier, but works like a charm. |
