Most Powerful PDA

hello,

i just need some information here. im doing a design project and as part of it we are to design a mobile device that allows for independence for the blind (such that they can get from one point in the city to another without asking for help). i won't get into specifics but i just need the model of the most powerful pdas out there right now. if possible perhaps an explanation as to why it is good.

it needs to be able to power at minimum: GPS, a separate map navigation software (custom maps), voice recognition and speech and an additional function which involves monitoring two stereo cameras in realtime to monitor for obstructions in the user's path and co-relating all of that into tactile response on another wearable device.

if the requirements stated above are too much, it doesn't really matter because i just listed that to sort of tell you guys what kind of power i need ( in case we dont need the BEST out there).

and yes i am completely nub with pdas.

thanks.

yes and i have been there. the problem is, apart from ram, cpu freq and general features i have no idea how to grade them. palmone doesn't exactly help =.="

there has got to be a pda guru around here who knows the top models off the top of his/her head.

www.bargainpda.com

Has every PDA released since 2003 in their database. Pretty much the equivalent of gamefaqs to games and imdb to movies.

Well its not PalmONE anymore. Heres the 411 on that. Palm Split into two companys, PalmOne and PalmSource. Later on hwne PalmSource decided to sell themselves to another company, they sold their half of the rights to the Palm Name Back to PalmOne, who then released the lifedrive, and TX under the Palm name again.

Anyways My personal Favotire is the PalmOne T5, it was the most powerful of the tungsten series but for somereason tungsten fans hated it. It was like a sequel no one likes. It had a 416mhz Intel XScale, software overclockable to 632mhz. It had a non slider tall screen which could switch to widscreen at the tap of a button. It played Mpeg2 video, mp3's wmv's ogg. It had 256mb of non volatile flash. 160mb was usable as a usb flash drive. The SD slot was upgradable to 4gigs. It had bluetooth connectivity with the optional sdio wifi card.

The PalmOne t5 was replaced by the raved Palm TX which sucks. it has half the memory, no usb drive function. it has 100mhz Less processor clock on the same processor. They did this to save battery life because the wifi is built in. They killed its performance for connectivity. But for some this was necessary.

You have to remember Palm units dont need as much memory or as much power to drive the os as a Pocket PC unit does. However there are some pocket PC's that pack a punch and a camera and are on less of a political vendetta then Palm Units. Id stay away from the LifeDrive if your an MP3 fan. It has a micro harddrive and unlike its flash counterparts tends to skip when you play music and run another program do to read delays. Although I believe there was asoftware fix to keep the drive more active in the works. I havent bought a Palm in 3 months.

Hope this helps clear up the high end of Palm, Im only on the forum for the emu - raptor project and wasnt sure exactly what your looking for.

The OQO may help you though 1ghz Windows XP machine less then a pound small as a pda. You can get one for 1900-2100 they external adapter drives 1280x1024 has a slide out keyboard. Advertised in laptop Magazine along with Panasonics new W-4.
