do you have a website?

Hi people!
Just curious, how many people here have websites. We all are gamers, but what about webmasters?

We had one but got tired of removing spam comments and took it down. Most personal websites are really only excuses for mental masturbation anyway.

Btw I dislike the term "webmaster" since most any Tom, Dick, or Harry can simply apply for free webhosting and have a page up in less time than it takes to get roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris.

I'm waiting for the EU to stop being fascists about their suffix.

Either that or I wonder if this guy would give me our name.

And yeah, "webmaster" ... that term meant something before Yahoo PageBuilder was available.

I think the ultimate irony is that I have no interest in making or maintaining websites, yet I am studying Internet Software Development.

Well, in my opinion webmaster is the man who knows some things like html, php, ftp, http, shell, SEO, etc.
And of cause if you are able to make a buck on your site, using adsense or banners or some other advertising, that sound like webmaster for me

I have three websites that I run.

They are fan fiction sites and the stories are pretty damn good in my opinion, although the one doesn't actually have any stories posted yet but it loks cool anyway =)

For anyone who is interested 2000AD Reborn: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/2000adreborn/

Avengers Reborn: http://www.avengersreborn.alteredvisions.org/

and lastly DC Reborn: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/dcreborn/

Yes, I do like my comics as well as games.

The requirements for that kind of system would be immense. Maybe in 5-10 years we'll see systems like that. I had an idea similar to that which would treat chatrooms/forums like an actual living room and you'd see 3D representations of each person. Then again, knowing the internet and people who use it...

With MMOs you have that kind of stuff. And I'm sure it'll start affecting the mainstream internet sooner or later.

But until then kuljek, you always have Second Life.

Right now im transfering everything from my fortunecity account to a colocation server at 1&1. Ill have 5 new sites hosted by the end of the year. Current skils outside of html, php, and a little flash about the only thing i wrote in flash was an mp3 streamer which requires flash 6 r49.

At the moment theres nothing up but i did stick this page that took 30 seconds in FP with 44 new avatars that i cropped out. http://s158191072.onlinehome.us/avatar.htm Thats the backend of the server till mydomains transfer.

Oh yeah and advertising? hehe well I dont believe in it. SUre we need to advertise but the web is just a mess these days. My servers come monthly out of my pocket. Cant wait till next year when i get a rack server.

Trust me, I'm talking about reality. Not 3d, but isometric. My engine right now work stable with 1k onetime users. but of cause it still needs lots of things to be made.

I'll show it soon

I recently got my www.vanitstudios.com address. Go there if you want, I'm still learning how to use Mambo (if anyone knows how to change the background colour and is familiar with mambo, please let me know).

Sort of a double post, buts its a bump and an extension to my previous post. I uninstalled Mambo and I'm using Joomla on my website; I've found it much easier and the templates look better (I'll make my own later, but really its too much effort).

So please go to www.vanitstudios.com and tell me what you think. Its got the hacks I've done, and with the hosting space I can finally upload my remixes (albiet they aren't that fantastic).

Yeah, I run a website also. Primarily for the warfare project, but you can find all the other projects I'm involved in at http://www.warfaresdl.com/~rich/. Warfare's a cross-platform next-gen FPS / flight sim. Runs off of SDL / OpenGL (much like UT2004 & NWN). Eventually, I intend to release it commercially... but it's my only closed-source project I'm involved in.

For the site, I use php, cgi, and html (of course). I have root access to the machine, and configure it how I please. I have local access to plain old warfaresdl.com (without the www). Both machines are extremely redundant in terms of normal consumer redundancy (H/W SCSI / fibre channel RAID-5 w/ hot spares, dual power supplies, etc.). The www machine also has redundant CPUs and RAM - basically any part can fail and it will run (and no, it's not a PC). Both machines also make daily backups of each other, and are located at different locations in the world.
