Problem with epsxe and [pec]

Hi I'm new.

I have a problem running Star Ocean 2 on epsxe. I use pete's D3D plugin and no matter how i configure it, when i start the game the main menu screen is all black except for the selections and some movies wont play. Also now after trying to change the bios to the other one epsxe wont even load the game anymore now i just get a black screen.

I decided to switch to VGS and everything works perfectly fine but the problem is I cant get PEC to work on VGS. I have PEC set to "normal" mode and the VGS icon is selected. When I click activate it tells me to run VGS, after I run VGS and the game it says "waiting for cd" but the cd is already inserted, I should have no problems... What could be wrong?

I use windows xp SP2 with an AMD64 3500+ Ati Radeon x800xt video card etc.

try using OGL2 for graphics, D3D is really underwhelming for your graphics card. you can just use the "nice" preset, it should work out. make sure to set Internal X res to 1, and internal Y to 2 or 3.

It doesnt help, I had to use pete's plugin with PSXeven because EPSXE no longer works, I just get a black screen, this black screen problem has occured since I switched the bios from 1001 to 7502, now when i switch back i still get the black screen.

Anyway here is a screenshot of what it looks like when I try to play the game without using VGS.

ok, let's just start over then. go into the registry editor (run-->regedit), search for psemu pro, and delete the registry key. then everything will be fresh and clean, and you can start over (with either ePSXe or PSXeven).

use Pete's OGL2 for graphics (the settings i already said), Eternal 1.41 for sound (make sure to put the SO2 special game fix on), and Peops CDR if you're playing off a CD. i'd recommend using the SCPH1001 BIOS.

then, make sure the game works WITHOUT cheats---then you can turn them on.

Thanks for the help I will try it, On another note I managed to partially make the game work by using the old peops video driver. Im satisfied with the graphics but the sound quality deteriorated a bit and the intro movie still doesnt play. I'm worried that maybe this problem is unsolvable.

Hello Shinju. I have that video card too, ATI x800xt a-i-w. I am wondering if this is a common problem on the x800 (or AMD?). In a few days I'll be getting Blast Chamber and I'll run it in ePSXe. I am suprised at this because when I had my ATI 8500dv a-i-w, 1.9Ghz, 512mb ram, ePSXe 1.60 ran every game (that I tried) flawlessly or near flawless.

The setting that Im using right now works. But like I said sometimes when you're using [pec] and you go and save your game, you wouldn't b able to see your save files. But then again I dont think it would be hard to tell which slot is which.

Ok guys, I did some test runs. ePSXe 1.60 is not the problem... And I couldn't use the same configurations as my ATI 8500dv a-i-w. The problem I encountered was with the buffer (Stretching Mode & Rendering Mode at the top which needs to be on standard not any higher). This is my current setting and works nicely

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GFX card: RADEON X800 XT x86/SSE2

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode
- Internal X resolution: 1
- Internal Y resolution: 1
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
- No render-to-texture: off

- Filtering: 5
- Hi-Res textures: 2
- TexWin pixel shader: on
- VRam size: 256 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: on
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 1
- Framebuffer effects: 3
- Framebuffer uploads: 1

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: on
- Shader effects: 5/2
- Flicker-fix border size: 0
- GF4/XP crash fix: on
- Game fixes: on [00015414]

Oh, and the Star Ocean 2, I don't have that, but I have seen a lot of compatibility fixes, you just have to look when configuring the audio and video plugins.

I tried using Petes OGL and it causes a lot of blocky pixils around everything, that's why I've been using P.E.Op.S. Softdriver. Is there any way to make it so that the OGL driver smooths out the blocky pixils?
