Angry MDecs and XA Play at Unlimited FPS Regardless of Settings

I recently upgraded my computer for the next generation of games and installed ePSXe so I see how much better it was than my old comp at handling the emu.

Well no matter what I do to set the fps limit or sound plugin settings, MDecs and XA audio play at something around 110-150 fps. I've tested it on a number of SquareSoft and Capcom games and the result is always the same, even on different plugins. I've used Pete's OpenGL and OpenGL2 plugins for graphics and the stock and Pete's plugin for audio.

I'm running the games as ISO's I've ripped and copied to DVDs. My computer's specs are as follows:

Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2 GB DDR400 run in dual channel
nVidia 7800GT
nForce 4 chipset

What can I do to get the game to run at the appropriate FPS?

Silly question: Did you set both the FPS limit parameters? You not only have to set the number (or auto), you also have to enable the limit.

A silly question indeed. Yes, the speed is the same whether or not auto or user limited FPS are enabled. Here are the settings:

GFX card: GeForce 7800 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!

Resolution/Color:
- 1024x768 Window mode
- Internal X resolution: 2
- Internal Y resolution: 2
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
- No render-to-texture: off

- Filtering: 6
- Hi-Res textures: 1
- TexWin pixel shader: off
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 60.0

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 2
- Framebuffer effects: 3
- Framebuffer uploads: 2

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: on
- Shader effects: 0/1

Could be the Althon X2 processor causing such a behaviour?

You've got a dual core processor. Didn't notice before. You need to modify your ePSXe.exe so it runs all its threads on a single core. Check this link:

http://www.quandaryland.com/jsp/dispArticle.jsp?filename=/help/Steves_XP_Games_Corner.htm&articleType=Help!+Page& title=Steve's+XP+Games+Corner

Search the page for "hyperthreading". The fix for hyperthreading will also work for multi-core systems.

yeah, buy a single core processor. then you won't have to worry about it.

i hate to tell you, but this is the simplest way. it's not that hard, is it?

IIRC you can also open task manager and set ePSXe priority to only one core,
never done that though because i don't have a dualcore processor.

do what Dan said.

it doesn't get any easier. the only reason that this would be hard is if it was in some language you couldn't comprehend. you understand English just fine, so follow those directions and you're set.

I have made a small patcher so you (and everybody else ) won't have to use Command Prompt.

Instructions:
  1. Download patcher.
  2. Download imagecfg.zip from here (just click Ctrl + F and search for it).
  3. Unzip patcher and imagecfg to some folder.
  4. open patcher and browse for imagecfg.exe and for epsxe.exe
  5. click "Patch". and that is it, it should work now.
