THE Solution On Problems With EPSXE and WinXP

Thanks to some bright EPSXE users, we have found the problem most WinXP users encounter with EPSXE.

-You get a nice black screen and thats it
-You load the bios and it doesnt get passed the Playstation Screen.

This is caused due to a registry problem.

Steps to fix the problem:

1. On your start menu, click Run
2. type "regedit" (no quotes)
3. Open HKEY_USERS folder
4. You will see multiple folders with numbers (ex.5-1-5-18)
5. Open each numbered folder one at a time.
6. In each folder, there should be a folder called software. if there is no folder called software, move onto the next numbered directory.
7. Inside the software folder, locate two directories called, you guessed it, epsxe and epsxecutor (only if you have cutor)
8. Delete these two folders in each of the numbered directories.
9. Run Epsxe.
10. You will notice the EPSXE wizard pop's up. if it does, you have completed this process correctly.
11. Configure EPSXE
12. Enjoy!

Note: For some reason, i believe the registry settings are being made by epsxecutor. EpsxeCutor does not work for me!!! I do not know exactly why it doesnt work, but if you attempt to use cutor again after you delete the registry settings, it will re-create them and you will be back to square one.

Bottom line- EPSXE WORKS! Epsxecutor: Currently un-usable in WinXP

Thumbs down ePSXeCutor unusable?

I'm using ePSXeCutor (1.0.4) with no problem under Windows XP. The only thing that goes wrong is if I configure SIO IRQ to be on, then it freezes after the PS logo. That's simple to fix, turn off SIO IRQ.

What I'm curious about for people that are having problems with ePSXe and Windows XP.... Are they using a POS pre-built computer with XP pre-installed? Or maybe they upgraded Win9X/2000 instead of doing a clean install of XP? Doing an upgrade of Windows can really screw with your registry and cause problems.

Another thing to try would be to try running the games from an ISO, rather than the CD. My POS CD-ROM gets buffer error after buffer error, and was causing horrible slowdown (but my CD-R drive works fine). Running from an ISO eliminates any CD access and any slowdown it may incur.

Re: THE Solution On Problems With EPSXE and WinXP

ePSXeCutor is not the one at fault here, so allow me to give a little insight on the problems you are experiencing.

Those "registry folders" as you call them (the proper name is "keys") store all the settings for ePSXe and ePSXeCutor. Whenever you run either of these programs they check to see if those keys are there. If they are, the load the settings from the registry. If not, the re-create the keys with default values.

So you see, when you delete these keys, you're actually resetting the config in ePSXe. This is useful to "fix" some problems that may arise from misconfiguring the emulator. This happens more often when using ePSXeCutor, since it allows you to change more settings, but in not ePSXeCutor's fault, you just didn't configure it properly.

Just one other thing, each subkey under HKEY_USERS (those with a bunch of numbers) refers to one user you created in your computer. You don't need to use this key, access HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead, since it'll point to the currently logged user directly.

If you noticed, i said this from my personal problems. I deleted the registry settings for both programs, after doing that EPSXE worked. With EPSXE now working, i went to go back to epsxecutor. when i had setup epsxecutor again, and went to start a game, i was back at square one. a damn black screen.

People thought it was a CD-Rom drive error. it isnt. i thought it was a CD-Rom drive error. i found out it wasnt.

Not all people use one logon name for there computers. I have several for many different purposes. that is why i had gave them those specific directions.

I personally upgraded to WinXP. Everything else was working fine except EPSXE. Palmo, you are most likely right, they either got a POS pre Installed Comp with WinXP, or they upgraded, like myself.

CIoud,

Don't take what I said as a personal attack or critic of any sort, I didn't mean it that way, all I wanted was to make clear it wasn't ePSXeCutor's fault. If the way I wrote my post made you think the other way, I apologize.
