Well yeah, no one does. But it has to be done for it to work properly, unfortunately. :/

I was thinking the same exact thing a few times before... but the file needs some major updating first before packing it with the emulator. It could even stay separate, but keep it with the downloads underneath the latest release.

Yes: use NO$GBA. Just transfer your save file over to NO$GBA's battery file, run the game in NO$GBA, and then everything should be good--no having to start a new data file or anything.

Well, my version lacks settings for newer games for starters. Then, there were two more versions, one by you, and one by master_magnus, I believe.

indeed.

i also just found another fix in VBA-M,

in 1.7, if you create a save for Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, it'll constantly tell you that the time is wrong,.. to correct this in you have to open the battery in a hex editor, then delete

0x00007FD0 - 0x00008000, this will take the file back to 32,768Bytes, when you load it into 1.8 (VBA-M) it will tel you can't load RTC information, just ignore this, then reset the clock on the load screen,

the clock will now work perfectly.

If this thread isnt dead yet (scratches head), then I have a silly question... this is to fix the "internal battery has run dry thang right", in which case u can just turn the "real time clock on". Aheem. so my question is, why does the screen go black, but u can still here the music in Boktai 2 when u enter the ruins or forest near the beginning of the game??? I havent looked around so if I find the answer Ill post up.

Hello guys, first of all tnx a lot for the hard work during these years for keeping vba-over.ini updated and help us.

Well my problem is not new to you:

But mine is a bit more dramatic, I'm playing a pokemon which filename is Pokemon_Moemon[partial_English].gba and its gamecode is BPRJ.

It is originated from jap FireRed, some holy guy hacked it changing its sprites to girls cosplaying pokemons. After that, somebody took this modded rom and translated the basic text and pokemons names and some moves names, to make it easier to us

Well I'm not on this elite 4 yet. I wanted to make a vbalink or no$gba connection to trade a rare shiny pokemon before it evolved, and then I found myself with this damaged battery thing.

Reading the forum and the readme I think my game and my 2 shiny pokemons are lost, because even if I keep playing I will not be able to finish the game... is that right?

Well I don't want to give up yet, if there is a way to fix the sgm to be able to save a working sav, I'd like to try. The other option would be to look for a gameshark code that could give me my shiny pokemons back

I downloaded GBATA and so on, but I'm not able to use these tools at least yet.

Beyond these situations, I have a few questions too:

1) Does the fact that my rom has been many times hacked, make it unique and no other rom can be used as a basis for fixing it, or the original JPN FireRed can be a hope?

2) Without the vba-over.ini, if I start a new game, the battery save works fine. If I find a gameshark code to recover my shiny pokemons, can I just restart the game and be safe, or is there any possibility of corrupting the battery save again and losing everything AGAIN?

3) Currently I'm using VBA 1.7.2 for playing. I chose it for being the last stable version, but now I see I need the trade functionality. I can use my sgm saves on balink 1.7.3, but it seems that before starting the connection the game tries to save, and since it goes wrong I think the game stop the link connection.
IDK if that's right, and even if there is a way to make the connection work I'd be struck on E4 anyway, so that's not the most important now.
The question is, if I'm able to fix the battery save or am forced to restart, which one is THE BEST emu version with trade support, that I should use to play this game (I read something about VBA 1.7.3 saves not working on VBA 1.8, so I may be stuck on the version I choose, so it must be really the best -.- )

Resuming my monography:
Is there a way to fix my saves without losing my shiny pokemons?
Either fixing it or restarting, is there a risk of it corrupting again?
How can I fix my ultramod version?

Tnx again for this thread and for the attention

I don't know what are starters, but trying the european version of Mario vs Donkey Kong, I needed to toggle it to flash save type. But this seems to be needed only for the first boot of the game, when a "please wait" screen appears.

Anyway, it would be good if you could add this to your vba-over.ini.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong (E)
[BM5P]
saveType=3

thanks.

All country versions of the games have been added into the newest version of the vba-over.ini and they are grouped by countries.

Download vba-over.zip in the attachments at the bottom of this post and extract it into the same directory as VisualBoyAdvance.exe. Then go to File>Open (not Open Gameboy...). The names used to describe the roms are based on No-Intro dat.

IF YOU ARE STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR ROMS:

Try deleting the vba.ini and any saves (battery saves and save states) that may have been created by the VBA and start the game fresh with the vba-over in the same directory as the VBA. By default, battery saves will be saved in the same directory as the rom unless the save directory has been manually changed in the directories dialog (Options>Emulator>Directories...). FYI, battery saves are saves that are produced by the game and have a .sav extension while save states are produced by the emulator and have a .sgm extension.

Note: The vba-over does not fix the solar sensor problems that are in the Boktai games. It only enables the Real Time Clock function in the VBA so that the game will use the system time in your computer in order for it to keep track of night and day like it would in the real game.

HOW TO USE IPS PATCHES:

This is for if you found a patch for your game and don't want to use the vba-over and you don't want to permanately patch your roms. Many of them can be found at No Frills. Make sure that you have the correct patch for your rom. Name the ips file as the exact same name as the rom with the exception of of the extension and place it in the same directory as the rom and make sure that Options>Emulator>Automatic IPS Patching is enabled in the VBA.

Example:
Pokemon - Emerald Version (UE).gba
Pokemon - Emerald Version (UE).ips

You can also use an ips patcher to permanently patch it for you. A good ips patcher for Gameboy Advance roms is GBATA. It also has many other useful utilities for Gameboy Advance Roms as well.

I'm almost certain that none of you have taken the time to read all of this either .

didnt work for me!!

can you please elaborate on how to fix it?

help much appreciated
