Half-Life 2 and Full-Screen Issue...

Hey all. Well, my main problem is that I cannot, for the life of me, get Half-Life 2 running in Fullscreen. I have searched through the official Steam FAQs, I have posted on other boards, etc.. I just cannot get it working.

Basically, I start the game and it goes into fullscreen, showing me the valve video...once that is done, it reverts back into windows giving me an error message (Picture 1), and once it goes back into the game, I see the valve video and an initial screenshot (when you have a blurry screenshot while it is loading) and once it phases into ingame graphics allowing access to options, single player etc, it quits again and shows me another message (Message 2).

At this point, it stays in Window mode, and if I try set it to fullscreen, I go trough the same process again.....does anyone know how to help me?

I am using Catalyst 5.3 Drivers, with a newly purchased Radeon 9800 Pro...the same thing happened with my previous 9600 Pro, and on my brothers X800 XT.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok, I figured it out. Basically, for some reason, the engine doesn't like having external programs force refresh rates (i.e ReForce). That was the problem. Ever since I disabled ReForce, it works fine now.

I hope that this will help others, cause god knows this has been a pain in the ass! But why didn't I think of this sooner?....

You may have been running Half-Life 2 at too high of a resolution for the refresh rate you were trying to force?

Just out of curiosity (I know you fixed it already), but what was you Hz set to and what res did you have Half Life 2 running at. And what kind of monitor do you have?

Because I have a 9700pro, and force 85hz, at 1024x768.

If ReForce crashes HL2, try using RefreshLock, you may have to set most of the rates
manually via the GUI, but after that you don't even notice it's running in background
