wondering
Since i'm not too much of an ati person, I don't know alot about their cards or how good they are, yes i'm a Nvidia fanboy so sue me, but anyway, I was thinking about upgrading the card in my newest rig, to maybe an ATI 9600XT 256MB DDR 128-bit. Is this a good card to get? It's only 185$ through newegg not looking to spend 400$ more on another top of the line card since I already have a GF6800 in my alienware, but anyway what are you guy' opinions on this card?

Maybe I'm just out of touch, but $185 for a 9600XT seems a bit much. I was thinking it would be around the $150 range, but what do I know.

Well, looking at AGP4x/8x cards in the 175-195 price range, I found a cheaper 9600XT (less memory), a 6600 a 6600GT and a 9800Pro. Of those, I'd spend the extra ten bucks to get the 6600GT, but then again, I'm an nVidia fan too.

I'd like the card to have 256MB of ram, cause my current 5700LE has 256MB of ram, so I don't want to drop back to 128MB. I'll keep checking around see what I come up with I may end up with another Nvidia card lol.

Even if you get a 128 MB GeForce 6600 GT it will whipe the floor with a 256 MB Radeon 9600XT.

Yeah I realize that, just that i'm a bit strange when it comes to dropping back to 128MB after having a 256MB card in it for this long, although I may end up having to drop down, but I honestly don't like the idea. If my board supported PCI express (which it doesn't bleh) I could of got an ATI X700 256MB for 215$

IMO getting an X series ATi card is not worth while, mainly if you are planning to stick around with it for at least a year.

If somebody buys my 9800 Pro, I'm gonna get a 6600GT or better. With some extra cash of course. I like Nvidia as well, but the 9800 Pro is pretty damn good too.
