Shenmue isn't a RPG, it's and adventure game with some status-raising elements... or you could just call it by the name Yu Susuki gave the genre: FREE.

The only thing that refers to Shenmue being an RPG is the fact that you take the role of a person, and play a part of his life. You don't have to point me out to the fact it isn't an RPG I'm glad that I don't have to battle invisible enemies that suddenly pop up and see some numbers in a status screen raising after I did some punching

Landstalker for the Genesis. No other game ever left such a big sense for adventure, at least for me. |

I am really heart broken ![]() Where did Diablo II and LOD go? This game was so addictive, great cinematics, nice story and great, fluid gameplay. Can't believe that someone would prefer FF series or Chrono trigger over Diablo II.

meh, they're different types of games. D2 is all about the mindless hack 'n slash. the other actually have a plot, a goal and characters. D2 in a nutshell is run around, kill and loot.

Right, for non-console games, I'd have to choose Elite, Doom and Halflife, because each of these games were "revolutionary". Ok, they've come out on consoles too, but they're still mostly home computer games. If you like playing PC/home computer games there's a lot of good games in all genres, but they're hard to compare to console games since most are a very different breed. I should mention X-Com, though, if it hasn't been mentioned already. Right, on to consoles. Almost any games I could think of has already been mentioned, but it seems everyone forgets the GameBoy, even though a GameBoy Advance is possibly the console with the widest range of avaible games. Also, it has no region coding, so importing is easy: Seiken Densetsu 1 (Final Fantasy Adventure in the US, Mystic Quest in EU) Metroid 2 (IMHO better than the original) Wario Land (Very different from most Mario games) Zelda 4, Oracles and Minish Cap (Zelda 3 style perfected) A host of SNES conversions A host of NES conversions Also a few Sega conversions Metal Gear Solid (Because the NES/MSX games are too hard to get) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Oh, and before I forget: PC Engine Super CD2: Ys book 1&2 Dracula X: The Blood's Rondo / Chi no Rondo Advanced Variable Geo (If you want to make a shameless SF2 clone you might as well do it with style : )

I'm pretty sure no one remembers this one.....Lucas Arts' Grim Fandango on the PC. IT was the 1st SUCCESSFUL 3D Adventure and it had a story to die for (no pun intended )

Judging from the fact that I haven't heard anything about it I guess that it didn't do much better than Simon the Sorcerer 3...

It was Broken Sword 3. If you happen to be talking about the Sleeping Dragon. Beneath a Steel Sky is being remade though (I heard.) |

Grim Fandango wasn't underrated, as it received all the praise of those who played it. It was undersold. Kinda like what happened to Beyond Good & Evil and many more of those wonderful gems. Although, it was my opinion that Grim Fandango wasn't that much fun, despite having been in love with oldschool adventure games. I quit the game halfway. Don't hate me.

I loved playing Secret of Mana on the SNES with a multitap......... even dumped a girlfriend to keep on playing the game with my friends. It was just irresistable. Winning Eleven was another cool way to waste away hours with friends...... I used to take on all comers in my house and remained undefeated for 3 years....... til my beautiful girlfriend dumped me and I lost all concentration and became lovelorn and apathetic........ Nowadays I dont play so much, life is time, time is money, money pays the bills and playing games dont............plus I gotta sexy Thai wife hehehehehehe but it was a wonderful childhood and I do like to relive it every now and again with ESPXE and Project 64 emulators B |
