/me waits for Valcrist to show up seriously though...Star Ocean is a great game...it has 2 main characters and 2 different story lines to follow, and secret characters to obtain. But be warned!!!! THE FINAL BOSS WILL KICK YOUR BUTT AND TAKE NAMES LATER!!!! I have never NOT beat an rpg, except for this one....the final boss is just to ungodly strong.....that is this games only real downfall.

Jldnr77, you must have taken off his limiter. If you don't take off his limiter, he's ridiculously easy after going down a few levels in the cave of trials. If you do take of his limiter, then i hear its strength is proportioned to yours. So even if you get to level 255, he'll still be a *****. But to answer the question that was asked, SO2 is a fantastic game. The story, the non-linearity of the character's private story, the gameplay engine, nearly everything about the game equates into something great. It's easily one of the best RPGs for the PSX, and well worth a play-through. |

errr... i don't know what your problem is then. Although, he was of mild difficulty at that level, he was a sinch once you get to 120, and at 150 and beyond, forget about it, you kill him while barely taking any damage. If you still have the save, i suggest you give it another try. Only this time, back down the tower, fly to the colliseum. Talk to an old guy in the stands, he sends you back to expel. You can even fly around now. There's an island that was previously inaccessable. Go to it, and into the cave of trials, the most difficult dungeon in the game, and home to a boss more powerfull than the main boss. There's many different levels, so just level up on the first few. The best items in the game can also be easier obtained there. Give it a go .

Yeah, but if you do that, you open up his full power....by going back to old Expel...and following the sequences that allow you to do that...his limiter gets removed...I'm having problems with him with his limiter still being on....let alone trying to fight him after his limiter is removed.

Boring game IMO,..I had to force myself to finish the first cd. The music and gameplay are good though,..Character design isnt bad,...storywise? boring... Yours, -Elly

from what i remember, the game's pretty good. i think it was a little too heavy in the random battle and travelling the world map departments, but it wasn't a bad game.

Ok...after looking at GameFAQ's, to get to the cave of trials, his limiter is not removed. How ever, if you do the PA with his daughter close to the end of the game where you get to use the teleporter to go to Virtual Expel, it DOES take away his unlimiter.

well, i for one feel that SO2 was one of the best psx rpgs. It's story wasn't anything revolutionary, but it's better than the majority of the pointless drivel out there on the market. It has its share of plot twists and surprises, and it kept ME interested, at least. the translation is what makes the plot slightly more tedius than it has to be, not the story itself. Anyone who plays more than a quarter of the game realises that things like lengthy time walking between towns and the such are things that don't last long. You soon get the ability to call a bunny to ride on, which speeds up travel alot, about halfway through, you begin to fly everywhere, because, well, walking isn't an option . The story shifts focus from just trying to get home to something bigger and alot more interesting, there's tons of fun sidequests to get into, hidden items everywhere to find and create, and just simply plenty to do. The battle system is fun, too. it's like Tales, but add a dimension. you have free movement to run around, use your abilities, and attack. The AI works like it should. It casts the right healing spells when you need healing, and it rarely overdoes things with its spells, picking the right ones at the right moment. so.. at least give the game a go, and log a few hours into it. i did that end ended up playing through the game multiple times (it has tons of endings). |
