Why do you like Final Fantasy X?

Tell me. I guess if you're one of those who doesn't like it, you can tell me why you don't like it too.

**second paragraph contains spoilers**

not so much as to "why i like it", but "what i like/dont like about it". It's direction was great, coupled with voice acting that doesn't blow, it made for cinematics that were fairly interesting. Things to do, as is the case in most final fantasy games. Run around, collect monsters for the arena, get hidden aeons and weapons, etc. I actually liked the equipment system as well, it provided alot of customization. The sphere grid idea was fairly unique, and it did get executed in a manner that didn't suck, which is good. I also like the lack of caps. There are no levels, which is alright by me, but the whole 99999 hp and damage cap was a real plus for me. I didn't get anyone anywhere near that, but i just like the option to make your guys as supremely powerful as possible, like in Star Ocean 2 or Disgaea.

What didn't i like about it? The way it made you do things like blitzball to get some of the best items/weapons. Blitzball itself wasn't horrible, but you had to play it way too much for my tastes. On the sphere grid, unless you were willing to put forth a lot of time on it, certain characters can easily get left behind. Khimari is the prime example for this, since he doesn't have a path of his own. I took him down rikku's path at first, realising the mistake later on, then i tried to send him down wakka's and later auron's, but it's just too much effort i'm willing to put forth. Oh, the linearity. I like how the game opens up at the end so you can actually do stuff, but there's still only so much you can really do. The story offers just about no choices, and you're stuck going through the same path. Other games without world maps do work to an extent, like Star Ocean, but FFX could have really used one. It's also easier than some previous final fantasy games. I really only had difficulty at two spots, the seymore fight at that one mountain, and yunalesca fight was somewhat annoying as well. The plot was alright, but it seemed meaningless at most times. You're running around with a summoner to fight sin, and protect her. The motivation is "she has to", and your motivation is "she's hot". Well... i dont know about you, but the whole thing seemed meaningless throughout 3 quarters of the game. The plot twists were alright, such as tidus really not alive, and his father being sin, but in the end, it's actually just the formulaic plot twists, and i predicted the whole thing about sin from almost the beginning.

All in all, when you add them up, i dont know if i can actually say i liked FFX. But i can't really say i disliked it a whole lot either. It was a decent and somewhat entertaining rpg experience while it lasted, but it's nothing i'll remember.

well i don't like it but im going to give you 2 primary reasons instead of going on and on....

1. Once again square manages to put the survival of the planet into the hands of a girly man with love issues.

2. It is no different than any other FF game in the series after 6. It's the exact same game with prettier graphics (hence why i dont like any FF games).

nuf said before i go into a rant

and with point 2, i suggest you play the game, because it's the most radically different game since 5 in the ff series, and is almost completely different in all respects .

I liked it. I thought the summons were awsome, and the spere grid was a great take on leveling up abilities etc ... It is also challenging in some parts. But not so had where your gonna break your controller.

Also the graphics were superb

The only things I dislike about FFX are blitzball and the fact that you can't move around freely in the airship (the no world map issue)

Oh yes, the bliztball ruined parts of the game for me. Like twards the begining more how Tidus had that big tournament. I had to play like 7 times just to get it right. And I missed the world map also.

Remember that I am amongst those who don't like RPGs...

What I liked about FFX was its presentation, dialogues, direction of cut scenes, a few of the characters and their personalities and a pretty nice story with a very different kind of ending, not to mention I think it had one of the best openings and endings in a game.

Gameplay wise, well nothing much I liked about it. I mean, the whole gameplay system of the RPG genre is not my thing....Tough? Can't say. I saw the game over screen three times.

I was defeated by that red sinspawn just before project mihen, Yunalesca and the fight with sin when he pulled me in

I thought it was awsome. But it made things too easy.

FFX sucked for the previous reasons.... I mean, no world map?... do you imagine how good a world map could have been?.....

there was a monster imbalance.... I mean, in normal games they try to keep mosters challenging yet not impossible (except for rare monsters like Omega Weapon in FF8) but in FFX, the weaker monsters are easy to kill (one, two hits) and those who should be slightly harder are near impossible (great malboros)

there are a lot more bad points, like the "world map".... I mean.... how are you supposed to explore if the only thing you have to do is to move around the cursos and then tap the button like nuts in order to find the secret areas.... there's no challenge in that...

story... major sucky factor.... as stated it is a "I want to save the world" sory... OK, OK... it deals with religious flaws in a chaotic world, but it is not enough for me... so I agree with Billiybob and Nightwolf plus the fact that the last boss comes from nowhere and has no reason to be that way (I mean, who the hell is Yu Yevon?... and why is he evil?)

man, I could go on and on..... only thing I liked was the graphics and the sphere grid/battle system else it was a letdown

i liked FFX because of...rikku

on a more serious note:

FFX was good IMO because of the variety it provided (spheregrid has an amazing amount of possibilities) i liked the whole talking thing, makes the game more interesting rather than the old word-for-word (when i play FF games, before X i always turned the sound off apart from in FMV's) so now i have a resaon for keeping the sound on, blitzball only sucks if u cant play it right, i'm not the best but i know what to do thats why i enjoy it

what i didnt like was that it veered towards the love story side again like in FF8, dont get me wrong i like the theme of romance its just that i prefer to save the world more then get the girl

Yu Yevon?

Spoiler:
from what I can remember, he was one of the most powerfull summoners of Zanarkand, Yunalesca's father who in the first place went to Gagazet to summon the dream Zanarkand, and created a sheild for himself which was Sin, also used to take his revenge on the ones who destroyed Zanarkand. In fact, the final distruction of Zanarkand was by Sin too.

That's where the beautiful end comes in. I am sure Tidus's primary motive was to "get the girl" but eventually he realized

Spoiler:
he won't be around either. Plus his reunion wit his father was simply awesome. There wasn't a happy ending. He didn't get the girl, as to say

I sort of liked FFX. It has to be the game I've spent the most hours on. It took me 40 hours to get past FF7, 60 on FF9 and 80 or so in FFX. One of my friends exhausted the play time counter (its stuck on 99999 etc).

Anyways this is what I liked about the game:

I thought the story was pretty well done and the character designs were nothing short of perfect. The battle system was smooth and battles never dragged on and got boring. The voice acting was a new experience for me as it was the first console game I had ever played that had full voice acting. Some of the movies were pretty cool as well.

What I didn't like about it:

Tidus had a nack to be lame sometimes which really got on my nerves (remember when Tidus and Yuna were laughing at nothing to feel better?). I was really annoyed at the linearness of the game because when I thought I had finally made it to the world map all I got was some picture of it and as Takmadues said, there was no challenge in exploration (tap right once and press x, tap right once and press x). Also I hate games where the secret weapons etc are basically required to defeat the last boss. It annoys me how you have to do so much for something so little.

Overall I'd give it 8/10.

True FF1 and FF2 have appauling graphics and storylines... but keep in mind they were the originals for nes about 15 years ago. Buy a copy of Final Fantasy Origins (psx) if you want slightly updated graphics for them. Anyways try to stay on topic, this thread is only for FFX.

no, no... I knew.... but I mean... the circumstances under which Yu Yevon appeared are one of the lamest.... only being surpassed by Necron in ff9 (I mean.... he did not have anything to do atall with anything )

when will they learn from legend of Dragoon, where the final bad guy was perfectly adapted to the plot?

for the love of all that is holy, i hope they never take anything from one of the worst games i've ever played in my life, Legend of Dragoon. God almighty, that game was drenched in s***.

changing 2 mnior aspects of the battle system doesn't qualify as radical changes
