Castlevania SotN and CDDA sound problems
howdy I am a newbie epsxe user and i recently finally got it to work with my only iso, casltevania:sotn, which I had ripped to play on my laptop for this vacation trip. I have gotten it to run with only 2 cdrom plugins: mooby's and the one beginning with x. i am using the eternal sound plugin with stock settings and have cdda on. my video plugin is pete's opengl one with the recommended settings from the epsxe site's help section cept with mode 3 for the frame buffer thing. I get fight sounds and what not just not cd sound... not sure what i can do to fix this. i can provide a more detailed stat/setting listing later as it is insanely late and im tired of banging my head against the wall over this. ah and my system is a dell laptop 2.4 ghz p4 with ati radeon mobility 7500 and the sound card is some generic laptop sound card. |

on the Config Sound menu, make sure at the bottom you have checked "Enable Sound," "Enable CDDA Sound," and "Enable XA sound." that should fix your problem. I'm no expert, but I believe SOTN and a lot of other games(like Tekken 3 for example) use XA audio for music. You won't hear it if you leave it unchecked. if not, then goto Configure for the sound plugin, and try changing the Audio Device to DirectSound(if it isn't already at that) and the Audio out method (SPUasync works well with the mode set to Smooth). If you don't get it to work I'll just fire up my version an give you my settings. |

you are totally right, thanks tons. I had noticed this a few days ago... i totally made the assumption that music from clip scenes/game music would be cd sound and not XA and i thought XA was default which explained the fight music i got.... now im on the next problem :/ FFTactics gets a fuxed up map screen like its either black with the city spots showing or wheni move it goes to normal for one second then when i land on the city the image reverses and messes up im hoping this is merely a case of improperly set gp settings so ill play with those... otherwise graphics are keen even on my crappy laptop vid card the 3d backgrounds are far smoother then they've ever been on tv.. oh also the text in boxes and on skill raise/job ability type screens is horrible fuzzy and pixelly if any of you have any idea of how to fix that.. yeah thanks and sorry for all the n00b questions. |
