Why do people quote their system specs in their sigs?

Why is it that what seems like 80% of people here quote their system specs in their sigs? Do we really need to know what patheticly slow processor you have, or what glorious flatscreen monitor you are staring into all day? I think not. So, why do so many people do this?

1. Well, its a emulation board, thus 80% need help with their system and emu () and other ppl need to know which part of the system may cause the problem or which specific settings different elements need.

2. To show off.

3. They simply don't know what to type in the sig field.

Most of them isn't to show off since the specs are normal! But also most of the people that do post their specs normaly don't have problems in the emu field... so... i would say its the point 3 Tori-Yama pointed They don't know what to put there lol

i do it for 2 and 3
we also do it simply because we are computer nerds :P
if you ever spent time on irc you can be a witness to a 10 minute system show down where everyone starts posting their specs trying to "one up" each other. winner gets lots of bragging rights

Tori already covered the relevant points.
I'm not qualified in any of them, though

LOL! That's very funny . Anyway, I'm basically going with what Seta-San said. 2, 3, and because we are nerds. Remember, NERDS, not GEEKS! There's a difference . Hmm, that might make a good sig... .

Because I like computers.

Why do people use sigs with their names in it? To show off?

I think that's why 99% of the people at this particular forum do it (although I'm sure a few do it to get better help). I don't because A. my computer's on the low end and consequently isn't worth bragging about and B. my signature's too big to throw anything else into it. And to be frank, I'd rather see my banner when I post than my stupid computer system specs.

well, i like it because it tells you what's up; especially when someone is like "oh man, this game worked PERFECTLY for me" blah blah..you need to know what kind of rig they are running just to see. as you can see i only have the basic specs, just so you get an idea of what im running.

what i find a bit eccentric is people that add in their keyboard/mouse/router/monitor/shoe size...thats just ridiculous

Just because when i first came it was for emulation help, later on i saw no reason to remove my specs, so i only further added an idea of mine. A new contender group that would beat the crap out of the oldies

I go for 1 & 2. Some people do it to show brand loyalty.

Um... I put my monitor there to fill up the space

My Machine isn't that spectacular to show off, but this topic reminds me I need to update my sig

I put my system specs in my profile, not my sig (which isn't updated very often, mind you )

In the words of the great Elly:

I agree completely dude. I don't say the space is useless filled with sys specs but there would be also room for a nice sig though
