Exclamation Nvidia lands Doom 3 deal!

Toss enough money at something and...

Source: GamesSpot

The GeForce FX line will be the official graphics cards for Activision's upcoming shooter.

A new page on the Nvidia Web site has revealed that the company has struck a deal with the makers of Doom 3.

According to the page, Activision and id Software are now advising that the game be played on machines using GeForce FX graphics cards. "Nvidia is pleased to announce that id Software recommends the GeForce FX family of graphics processing units for DOOM 3," said the post.

Terms of the Doom3/Nvidia deal were not disclosed. The PC version of Doom 3 is due sometime in Q2 2004, with an Xbox version to be released sometime this year.

Makes sense, espically since ATI got HL2, nVidia couldn't very well let them have both games, so it must have had to been some sum to get them to agree to that. As for the Q2 release date for doom3... I'll believe it when the game goes gold. I'm still not hearing much progress of it, other than that recent article in PCGamer with them playing some sort of deathmatch level. You usually see a lot more than we have with games before you know it's within a couple months of release. Ah well, there's always hope that it will be released sometime this year, and you know that they're going to try to get it out ahead of HL2, though it likely won't affect HL2 sales much, if at all.

Indeed. It does seem a little odd that ID would sell out to nvidia like this, since it's comprised of no-nonsense hardcore gamers for developers, the type of crowd who dont particularly care for these sponsorships. But like chrisray said, ID and NVidia are no strangers to eachother. Either which way, it's just more money to pour into the development of the game, it certainly cant hurt things.

And modem, ID isn't Valve, they dont hype their games to insane levels. ID like i said are no-nonsense people, the entire company is only like 15 people big. They're too busy making Doom 3 to hype it up. They'd prefer to just focus everything on programming then let the people decide for themselves when the game is released, whenever its released. The Q2 date is a rough estimation, since ID has long said "it's done when it's done". I'm surprised they found a publisher willing to stick with them. Kudos to activision.

I thought this happened a while ago? Maybe because it was so obvious that it would.

Both companies like to show off their technology. It's not like Id is any more modest than Valve. During conventions they've done everything they could to show off the game and its technology. Plus it's not really the companies who hype things up, it's the fans. As far as I can see Id fans produce just as much hype as Valve ones (although nothing close to what Blizzard fans produce).

As long as I can play DOOM 3 on my Geforce 2 MX then I'm happy.

True, but I saw more info on Quake II a few months before IT'S release than I've seen of Doom3 (other than a few screenshots). I admit, ID is doing a much better job than Valve, keeping their promise of "It's done when it's done", but we'll likely hear a lot about it a couple months prior to it's release before we KNOW it's getting released. I've kinda lost my confidence in these to companies (Valve/ID) due to them just sucking at release dates, though ID is keeping their promise better than Valve ever has.

ID never set a release date, so it's kinda impossible to suck at them. Seeing as how long it takes them to make each game, the length it takes just means they're bringing it as close to perfect as possible.

Hmm, maybe if i have money by then i'll just get the card, depending on the card, if there is a card with a doom 3 rebate. I have a feeling my Geforce 4 Ti 4600 will barely run it smoothly on medium settings :P

I realize that ID doesn't really do release dates, but they still love teasing us with videos of their games and screenshots of great looking games, but still fail to release the game years and years after the screenshots are shown. It's just teasing, really, I realize that, but it's still really evil. I mean for cripes sake, they have VIDEO of the damn game back in 2001! But I do understand that they're just trying to perfect a game which will probably rule beyond anything we can immagine, but if that ending sucks, like every other doom game, I'm going to be very upset.

I dont see how ID sold out, Everyone knew this game was going to run best for Nvidia hardware, Ultra Shadow, Custom Shader backend. Carmack loves OpenGL, And Currently Nvidia still offers the best OpenGL support there is.

That and Nvidia has been funding ID and this game for a long long time now.
