Old PS1 Game: Need the name

There was this old tough game for playstation one whos name escapes me. The game consisted of a guy that owns monsters and this tower that the game focuses on. When the main character enters the tower, his level is reverted to 1 but the monster(s) retain the levels that were gained previously. The game was some sorts of odd rpg type game, and I remember that it was a real hard game. Anyone got any clue as to what the game was called?
