Red face What CD-RW/DVD-ROM should I buy?

Hello,
I have a question:what CD-RW and DVD-ROM do you recomend me?I was thinking of a good CD-RW and DVD-ROM that can read subchannels.
I heard from other people that Teac is the best and that Sony is the worst, but still isn`t Sony`s DVD-ROM in the PS2? And it works fine, doesn`t it?
Thanks for helping me!

Can't comment on the DVD-ROM, as I haven't been through many, but I will say that Lite-On DVD-ROMs tend to be very noisy.

For the CD-RW, I'd recommend LiteOn, as they are probably the second-best CD burners available. The best is Plextor, but you pay a lot more.

it's PLEXTOR!!! They're too much IMO, IIRC they allow you to overburn up to a gig on 1 CD, Amazing for a CD-writer to do that...

But it is Bang for teh buck, get a Liteon... I got one: 16x/10x/40x Cd-Writer..
Still alive since i bought it 2000-2001, Has some quirks, but none serious...

CDRW drives.... Lite-ON CD-RW drives are cheap and functional, I've had two. I had a Yamaha CD-RW (8x4x8x) which was alright, until it died 6 months down the line.... I also had an MSI 48x24x48x CD-Rw for a few months which was great, but I sold it on when I got my A06

I've had 5 DVD drives in my time. A Hitachi 5x one which my brother now has that is adequete. A Sony 5x one that was on it's way out when I got it and is now completly dead. A Pioneer A-05 DVD-RW, which was a great drive, being fast in all it did, an LG DVD+-RW/RAM which was considerably slower than the Pioneer drives, but good for its price, and a Pioneer A-06 DVD+-RW which is basicaly the A-05 with +RW support.

i would say Lite-on and LG are excellent. the LG was very quiet and fast even for a 8x4x32. i have a JLMS DVD-ROM drive, that is a very very quiet 16x DVD-ROM drive which i recommend.

What about Sony? How long does it last?
I wanted a Sony thinking that it would be great for PS games, because the PS2 had a Sony DVD-ROM drive right? The problem is that I heard from other people that some Sony drives had some manufacturing problems, that they don`t read very well and that they don`t last very longer.
I was thinking of a CD-RW and DVD-ROM that would work fine with PS games and PC games.

Oh god no, Sony have some pretty terrible drives in my experiance. I know of 4 or 5 that have shattered CD's inside of them, or in one the bearings fell out of the motor. Plextor if yah have the cash, LG, and LiteOn are decent afordable well performing drives. It's fairly hard to pick a bad one from any of the name brands really. EXCEPT Sony... :rocket:

Ok, think I understand now but does Plexture, Liteon, LG or Pioneer read subchannels and can copy data density? And do they make too much noise?

I would chose Lito On for CDRW... very cheap but gives you the performance you need... though I has no idea on the DVD ROM, haven't owned one yet...
