Saga: Frontier 1 problem

Saga: Frontier gets stuck in the title screen. Actually, it seems that it won't recognize the gamepad (superdualbox + dual shock 2), since I can't skip to the title screen from the first short intro either. I tried mapping the controls to the keyboard but that doesn't work. I've also tried the F4 toggle with no results. The pad works fine in other games (I checked it in Silent Hill, for instance). Anybody else had this problem?

I'm on ePSXe 1.6 and Pete's D3D running on XP. Now try and read this out loud very fast three times.

Tried the F5 (Digital/Analog) toggle? BTW, SaGa Frontier works here, I completed all stories except for Riki's on ePSXe.
