INTEL breakthrough

here's a link from http://www.dvhardware.net/article2079.html concerning intel's development on better transistors, its an update. u can fin the previous news from their main page. things are looking good for intel. moore's law anyone? bad it's still far from being applied, but still quite a breakthrough if they can manage to squeeze out its potential

Btw, the link is in greek!! Don't understand a thing at all

/edit Umm..can somebody tell me what silicon dioxide is? I can't really remember.....think it's sand or something

Re: INTEL breakthrough

it is abit technical. yup silicon is made from sand. it is mainly used for semiconductors. like pcb boards(the green thing that most motherboards/video card are made of), and ic's.if that thing intel is developing can really switch faster then we are going to see some serious improvements here. imagine less heat, less power wasted, higher clocks, etc. if it is really a good insulator then the less current leakage will really help. the transistor is like a switch, the gate controls the on and of or "1 and 0". looks good from here, sorry for the double post btw

Re: INTEL breakthrough

OT:
LOL.. PCBs are generally Copper plated "plastic-like" plates...

Hmm... Question is, Will AMD follow suit?

IIRC, Silicon Dioxide is glass.

Re: INTEL breakthrough

oops, sorry about the pcb thingy,i was thingking of wafers, why did i put pcb there, lol. lets hope amd digs up somethin new too to help them out, maybe intel will try to patent it or something.

Last time I heard AMD and other companies were pushing for bi-gate technology and SOI (both of which may already be in use). Intel seems to be the only ones going for tri-gate and strained silicon. Intel's been focusing a lot on transistor technologies lately, especially with current leakage. I guess it's to be expected as it's getting increasingly difficult to keep leakage under control as transistors shrink.
