Talking How to save your windows updates!

Quote:
Do you have multiple computers to download updates for? Tired of having to download the same updates over and over again?

Particularly irritating to modem users, the WindowsUpdate site seems to follow the Microsoft tradition of being built for THEIR idea of the average joe. Unfortunately, the average joe more often than not has more than one machine and is still stuck on 56K these days due to a lack of broadband ability in his area. This can also be frustrating for those who have to pay for the bandwidth they use by the megabyte or the toll charges for the connection they're using to download those updates.

Well, here's the easy solution. Use the Microsoft WindowsUpdate Corporate site. Here you'll find the updates for the entire Windows XP product line (including 64-bit and server versions) as well as Windows2000. Just point your browser here:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...corporate=true

You'll have the option of searching for software updates or driver updates. For software, you'll be prompted to choose the operating system you're using. Be careful to select XP Home for versions that aren't XP Professional or XP Corporate so you get the right updates for your box(es). You can also drop down and search for specific updates, a very handy feature.

You'll then be presented with a list of everything that's available for download by category. Select the category you're interested in (critical updates, service packs, recommended updates, or Internet/Multimedia updates). You'll be presented with a further list of things available. Don't blindly click on everything here - some things are specifically for other language versions, and will mess your system up if it's not that language.

After selecting your downloads, click the Go to download basket. You'll be presented with a box to select your location to store the requested updates, and the list will be recounted here so you can remove any you've changed your mind about. Once you have selected the location, your download button will become active. The updates you requested will be downloaded. To apply them, simply run the exe files. You can also put them in a shared folder to be used by everyone else on the network.
Look what I found at Driverheaven forums. Now I can save all my windows updates now when I reformat I don't have to redownload these updates

Just to let you know, that link doesn't work. That is a neat find though. I could use that to burn updates to CD for ppl that have dialup like my dad and my mom.

Re: How to save your windows updates!

There's an even easier method . Goto www.microsoft.com/technet/ and download them via that. This method has the added bonus that you don't have to have m$ scan your machine.

yeah that's really convenient. Right now there's like 40MB of patches after a windows XP SP1 installation. Takes 10-20 minutes to install

Re: How to save your windows updates!

I don't install everything though, all the criticals, and some recommended updates, but 96MB is almost a service pack.

Re: How to save your windows updates!

uhm i took the critical updates and service packs. And downloaded them all. i Got it all on my HD now. But is there a way to install all the files at once cos selecting one by one would take to long to install it all.

Re: How to save your windows updates!

after you make a slipstreamed windows 2k/XP CD, you can add the updates to the CD in order to avoid installing each update each time you install windows, as for the slipstreamed CD refer to:
http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsX...p1-bootcd.html
there are ways to add the other updates faster although I haven't done that yet.
